Amy smiled. "Very good, miss. That's it exactly. There are three planes of existance, or 'realms' as they are more often termed. Think of them like three sheets of paper; each sheet touches the others but normally anything on one sheet of paper is restricted to that sheet or plane. However..." Amy paused as she drew something moving from on circle to another. "Given sufficient energy, anything can be sent from one plane to another. However, it's not as easy as simply shifting from one sheet of paper to another, but that's the general idea." Amy paused for a moment, giving the students time to catch up with notes or ask questions.

Louis looked with curiosity at the drawing and took from his backpocket a piece of paper. It had the same picture and several very complicated notes. He had taken it from one of the books he researched, he now realized what it meant. Then a thought passed his mind as he raised his hand and asked 'Ummm, miss. You're saying that there are three realms, now I assume that two are the shadow realm and human realm but what is the third realm?'

DJ nodded and took notes diligently, he was a little saddened by the fact that he wasn't able to answer the question that was obviously directed at him for punishment, so he would at least try to understand the general idea behind it. He drew the diagram and added some flags himself to help understand it based on what the teacher had said. He thought to himself on the question that had been asked. Magic and shadows definately weren't his thing, but he thought about it for a bit based on what other more magically-oriented people around him said. Shadow, human and... "Spirit Realm." He muttered to himself, making another few notes, leaving it to the teacher to answer fully but trying to clarify in his own notes just how things worked. After all, those crazy things he saw people talking to had to come from somewhere, right? Or else he could just be crazy himself, either way he'd better listen to what this teacher in particular had to say.

Amy nodded again as she wrote on her board. "Correct again. The three realms are referred to as Dawn, Twilight, and Midnight. The Dawn realm is the world we all exist in, where as the Midnight Realm is what's known as the 'Shadow Realm' in most of the mythos. The third realm is referred to as the Twilight Realm, which we will be discussing in more detail in the next lesson." She hoped people would pay attention to that, it would come in handy.
"Of course, even though all three realms are technically connected, travel between the realms is very difficult because of one other piece of the puzzle: the Aether. Does anyone want to hazard a guess at what the aether is, and what it does?"

The midnight realm..his home realm. In his opinion, that sounded so much cooler than the Shadow realm, but it was what it was. He stared at the teacher over his glasses, then finally raised his hand high in the air, closing his eyes. "The Aether is what happens to you if you're stupid enough to get stuck between one of the realms in your travels." Of course, he couldn't look like he knew as much as he did about the realms, so..."At least...that would be my guess...professor." He added the last part quietly, his eyes still closed, still leaning back in his chair against the wall, feet up on the table, not even bothering to take notes. Notes were for Freshman.

Amy smiled, a bit taken back by how accurate the response was, but no matter. "That's pretty much it, Mr. Dehay. The aether is the stuff between the planes or realms, and it's what makes walking from plane to plane more than a bit difficult."
Amy made some more notes for the students to take down, then asked. "Now then, are there any other questions you have? please ask them now before they show up on a test..."

Why did he have to take this class? What was the point, this wasn't a cult. Will believe in hard evidence, logic, and the real world. He wa convinced that the majority of the scientific community did not take part in this kind of speculation, and these 'relms' were recognized as existing past superstition and popular media.
Will was the exact same way, if the scientific community didn't have any evidence to prove the existance to these relms, why should he? He had half a mind to leave the class, however, it was required (apparently), and he would just suffer through the witchdoctor mumbojumbo.
Will clearly looked uninterested an skeptical, and didn't bother to change that look. He just couldn't find evidence to support the belief in different relms.

DJ raised his hand, already needing a point of clarification for something. "Professor, what is this aether stuff like? Is it a theoretical substance like the neutron, assuming something just has to be there so we'll call it that?" He was rather skeptical of the neutron theory, being something that weighed almost nothing, couldn't be seen or felt, or couldn't effect the particles around it in any way other than to be a placeholder for the nuecleous. But that was somewhat ironic, trying to bring a theory that couldn't be proven into a magical science class, redundant almost.
"Or is it simply taking up space? Like the way sand separates the ocean from the land? Or is it more like a magnet? Not only repulsing people from going between the realms, but keeping themselves apart so they don't crash together through whatever physical forces exist interealmly." He blinked, wondering if any of what he had said made any sense.

Louis turned in his seat and looked at the person who just spoke. 'What the hell did he just say', he thought.

Amy addressed the question without missing a beat.
"That's a good question, Reilty. So far there hasn't been enough research to be sure of what it is exactly, but the consensus is that the aether is closer to a placeholder; something that exists to keep the planes in balance. Think of it like a large patch of fog across a highway, it makes navigation very difficult unless you're paying close attention to everything.
Of course, that's just conjecture. Any more questions?"

There isn't any research because IT DOESN'T EXIST! Will though, trying hard not to say anything, just shaking his head and frowning. AT this point, he was waiting patiently for class to end.. the sooner this class was done the better, so he could get back to the real world.

No one seemed to have anything more, which was good enough for her. If they had trouble, they'd only have themselves to blame.
"All right then. Homework, read over chapters 1 and 2 of the text, be sure to take a few notes, and keep your eyes peeled for the next class posting. You're dismissed!"

DJ sighed, relieved that it was over. He felt he had a fair grasp on the topics, but also that he'd have to stay on his toes to keep up in this class. He made his final notes and wrote down the homework assignment before getting ready to go. "Well, one step at a time I suppose." He chuckled to himself lightly as he gathered his books and stood up. He looked around for anyone he might know and shrugged as he slowly walked out of the room.

It seemed like a short class to her. But the students seemed to be enthusiastic about it... especially the one red-haired Obelisk girl who cheered and ran out of class in a dustcloud. She blinked and stared, then shook her head. Freakish Obelisks. She packed away her books and looked around the room... Reilty... Nimbus... Matsuna... She stared at the three of them and then looked towards her roommate. Then she bowed her head and quietly walked out of the door. She was uninteresting... what made her think to go to one of them?

As the students filed out, Amy remembered two things she needed to take care of.
"Excuse me, Mr. DeHay? A moment please?"
