The scene was as thus; a gathering of students out in front of the main building to Duel Academy. The August air was hot and humid, but soon the air would probably get better. The leaves weren't even starting to change colour yet. But it was still the first day back to the Academy after summer vacation.
The podium at the front door was tall, and so when the doors opened, it disguised whatever was coming out. Some students in the crowd, namely the first years, were confused as they looked; who was coming out of the building? But whoever had been there in the last year may know who it was.
The figure walked up onto a stool, and over the podium popped Professor Padmore's head. He was the current Assistant Headmaster, and had been given the task of saying the year's opening speech. The red-haired man coughed a little as he looked out over the crowd, and he noted a few first years giving snickers. It took a lot of willpower not to roll his eyes, as he began his speech.
"To all of the new students, welcome! To all of the old, welcome back! As you know, Duel Academy is a very prestigious dueling academy on the international front. It's one of the first in the world, and one of the only in the world. It is certainly the biggest. But do not let the size daunt you; Duel Academy will welcome all those who wish to learn." Alan glanced over his spectacles at the crowd again.
"You have been chosen from many to come to learn at this school, and for that I say to you; congratulations. You are about to begin a journey that your parents cannot claim to have ever gone upon; you are about to attend an academy that will not only prepare you for future careers in the dueling industry, but will prepare you for life. I should hope that you embrace the gift that has been bestowed upon you... quite frankly, I'm jealous of you." Alan said the last part with a faint chuckle under his breath.
"My name, for those who do not know me, is Alan Padmore. I happen to be the Assistant Headmaster at Duel Academy, and I'm sure you'll see a lot of me around. I am also the History teacher. Our Headmaster could not make it today, and for that he apologizes." Damn Vahn Gale. "But I've been sent in his place to welcome you with open arms."
He paused at this next part. Should he say it, should he not? Alan closed his eyes, and braced himself for the imminent impact.
"You may have heard some news reports of mishap at this school, dating back to last December. Reports of students running amuck. I want to only tell you that they were dealt with accordingly." If you could call dueling them into submission and for some causing them mental trauma and injury dealing with them. "I can also tell you that now that this school is under my watch, I will not allow such things to happen again." And he wouldn't. At least he would try. But he was only one man, trying to take on a responsiblity that was perhaps too large for the 4'8 man's shoulders.
"But enough of that. You've gotten your books and your room assignments, I trust. Those who have not may speak with one of their professors. And so, with that, I'll make this a quick speech. There's no need to drag it out much longer. Welcome to Duel Academy, ladies and gentlemen." Alan said with a nod of his head as he hopped off the stool to the side of the podium. He then took a small bow, and waved towards the crowd of students.
