Craig entered the classroom and sat down without a single word. He had become even more reticent during the past few days. Even more than he usually is. He used to say the minimum, now he said next to nothing. He ate, he worked, he studied, he slept, but seemed to be on autopilot the entire time.
It wasn't easy to understand him, nor easy to explain how he felt. One word that could describe how he felt is numb. He just didn't care any more. Why, he didn't know. And he didn't care either, which only made it worse.
However he would still attend classes, as was required, and do his work, as was needed. It would give him something to do, perhaps to fight the burnt out feeling he had. While the professor told them to converse with each other, Craig simply took out the book for the class and read it again.

Ivan was running down the hall. "Hope I'm not late," he was thinking to him self while running. Then walking into class, "Just made it," he said under his breath as he took a set. Then looking around, "Hmm," he pondered as he looked around the class at the other students. Then seeing Axel he gave a wave.
Ivan then checked his pockets to make sure he had is deck. "Ok, I got it," he said to him self. Then pulling out a book he began to read while he waited for class to start.

Mid time arrival brought diminutive awareness. A lady of obelisk glisten her emerald eyes to the space over. She would occupy the place taken from the lesson before. Position identical. Deck in hand. Disk on the wrist.
Solitude. No eye contact. Slight attention to surroundings. She took more interest in shuffling arts. The bridge. The fan. The tower. Action will remove the doubt that theory cannot solve.

After what had happened, Cirno decided that it would be best to attend her classes. After all, Hibana had advised her to do so and her master was. thusly. right. After all, it seemed that Cirno already missed a class and three missed classes equaled an expulsion, something she would not enjoy now that she'd had an actual reason to stay at the academy, She'd promptly entered the room with a skip in her step and a smile on her face. It was the first time she'd been in this class, so she'd wondered how it'd go. Taking a seat towards the center of the room near some random female, she'd yawned a bit and sat quietly, wondering what was going to happen now.

(I'm really sorry, I only just noticed there was a new topic. I've been on other boards and such, forgive me for being late)
Crud! Crud, crud, crud, crud!
Arche dashed through the halls, carrying her backpack and everything, cursing her luck. She coudlnt' believe this. Late for her first class here. Oh, that was a GREAT way to start off. Hoshi was one of the first in his class, she wasn't about to let that beat her! Bursting through the door, she breathed heavily, out of breath from running all the way there, and saying, "Made it..." Standing up properly, she laughed a bit, saying, "Sorry, sir! I kinda lost track of time and had to run here... Hope you don't mind it." Not waiting for it, she raced up to any random seat, ending up next to a weird, blue-haired girl. Like she was going to mention that though, with her PINK hair. Plopping the bag next to her, she wiped away the few beads of sweat on her brow. "Man. I'm getting out of shape. That shouldn't have even taken too much out of me." Looking over, she saw the girl, and said, "Name's Arche." She didn' tsay anything else, not wanting to get into any more trouble with the teacher than she might have been.

Stein didn't say anything to the new girl, but simply continued reading. A few minutes later, he pushed himself away from his desk with his feet and threw his book onto the flat surface, letting a satisfying 'thud' resound off the wooden structure as the leather-bound volume stuck it. He then stood up from his chair and walked into the center of his area, looking around at all the students with a small smirk on his face. "Seeing as how we are currently minus a Deck Construction teacher, I will be now conducting both classes together in order to round your skills out a fair bit more than before. You could be a top tier Duelist, but without a Deck that you built using your own skills, you will be nothing."He then produced a small remote control from his pocket and clicked a button. From over the blackboard, a screen began to unroll slowly from an electric motor. As it dropped, Stein moved over to the lights. He turned them all off, leaving the classroom in darkness for a moment. Another click from the direction of the light switches, an the screen lit up white from a projector that had descended from the ceiling. "First off, we will take a look at the Duel we had from the first class. This is both a refresher on tactics for those that were here during that class, along with a minor show of what could possibly be in store for all of you in my class."Then, he quietly walked up next to the still snoozing Jugan, and tapped his shoulder. "Wake up, Manly Man. Sleeping in class isn't a manly thing. It's for pansies."He smirked, then clicked another button on his remote, and a video appeared on the screen. It was, indeed, video footage of the duel from the previous class. (Making it easy) duelistlegacies.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=duelingclass&action=display&thread=405&page=2After the footage ended, he walked back over to the lights, then turned the back ones on first, so the class could adjust to the lighting change gradually. He then systematically turned on the rest of the lights until all were lit, then moved back up to the front of the classroom. "So, let's hear from some of our new students. What do you think of that Duel that occurred, hmm? Ideas on different strategies to employ?"

Post by Marvelo Namaguchi on Dec 8, 2009 0:38:53 GMT -5
Marvelo knelt back in his chair as the professor came to life. During the presentation he watched what he had missed in the beginning of the class. Not only were their deck ideas crashing against each other, which was expected, but it appeared that they didn't know what deck they were going against. That could be a simple mistake, right? Marvelo thought about it and decided that was wrong. Appropriate was already up on the field and then defender was flipped. Mystical Space Typhoon was a game turner. He thought more about what staged him better than his team. It was on the spot but the art of "teamwork" would usually kick in.
What was more fascinating to Marvelo was Blinky's system. It was playing them, literally. It staged a frontal for a normal turn, turned to an offensive, during the Ra's turn, and then took it home during his turn. If the Appropiate Engine was placed, then the f/d was probably set for defense. Usually one looks to the field for staging but the hand was more dangerous. With Ojamas and Aliens hand disruption would have been difficult. Blinky may have won the duel even with the bad call for Mystical Space Typhoon. It was to judge their decision making though. Hopefully Round 2 they would see changed.
Marvelo raised his hand as the professor distinguished a class response. "For one probably a better hope of luck. But also staging the difference between turning the tide and preparing for the next turn. The Mystical Space Typhoon on the facedown would have been a smart move to do if it would have resulted in the Ojama's pulling off their famous OTK on that turn. Instead the opponent just saw it as a "seize the moment" opportunity and therefore cost them the duel. Taking out one of the Appropiates may have left the face down shield for the future. But some plays are worth the risk if they help you out next turn."
Folding his arms in his chair, a cocky grin appeared on Marvelo's face. "Going on from what you distinguished last class, I'd place both duelist in the 'Good' category. Then again it wasn't really long enough to judge."

Post by Cirno Hanayuki on Dec 8, 2009 1:23:31 GMT -5
Cirno was about to reply to Arche, but class had soon started, leaving Cirno to listen to the teacher and watch the given video containing an Exodia Win-Condition duel. It was a quick duel and she didn't quite know what to say. That was, until another of the Obelisk Blue students had spoken up. She'd listened to his response and thought up her own, noting his final sentence but having no idea to its meaning.
"Well, I'd say the Blue-y over there is right about the luck part~ With the way that Exodia Deck was run, it was that their luck just wasn't as good as the opponent's~ And, in address to the Mystical Space Typhoon comment, I'd have to agree with that as well, though one Appropriate might have been enough to speed through the deck in the first place, so, in that sense, it might have been inevitable that the opponent won in that fashion."
Cirno thought of what else to say, as she'd inquisitively stroked her chin with her index and thumb. Nothing in particular came to mind, except for maybe one thing, though. She'd thought about it once again before she'd say it and nodded.
"Also, there's a slight chance things might have turned out differently, had the opponent gone first. Possibly a different strategy or maybe a different turn 1 approach."

Arche just watched the duel carefully, noting the moves made. Oddly... she didn't expect the outcome. Win by Exodia wasn't all that common, from what she heard. But there were decks that used it... As the question came up, she said, "From the looks of things, I'd agree with teh girl next to me. They both seem pretty good. The deck is an Exodia one, obviously, and it's built around drawing as many cards as possible. I bet there's even a few MAgical Mallets thrown in for good measure." Arche was thankful that she had actually seen a good few cards. She had faced a variety of duelists, although her deck wasn't that good. "REally though... its only strength seems to stem from getting Exodia quickly. If the spells and traps can't be used or there's no monsters on the field, it's wide open." A few seconds passed before she asked, "Am I right, teacher?"

Post by Masami Maeda on Dec 8, 2009 3:35:58 GMT -5
Masami kept her mouth shut. Personally, she didn’t find any of the duelists in question that intelligent. Firstly, the singular duelist overcommitted grossly to the field. It paid off in this instance, but it was simply stupid to commit three cards to the backrow and effectively reducing any chance he had of a comeback if his back row cards were wiped out because of some for mass card removal. Against two players, the probability of them possessing a Heavy Storm, a Trunade, or any of a dozen other forms of mass backrow removal doubled in the circumstance.
Then, of course, he got extremely lucky into having a few other draw cards in addition to the double appropriates that he played. It worked out for him because of the perfect storm of cards that he had in his hand, but if the computer depended on drawing nuts, he would find that his deck would simply fail under most situations. Masami breathed an audible sigh at the thought of the deck withstanding round after round of play in a tournament.
Both of the tag duelists failed to read the situation. If the opposing player did not activate the facedown in response to either the alien or Ojama summoning, nor the alien attack, it’s safe to presume that the card is not something meant to hurt them. At worst scenario, it was a mirror force, which was likely the only significant out that the card could have been short of situational solutions like Dimensional Prison or Sakuretsu Armor.
Given that the duel robot had so recklessly overcommitted to the field, and flipped two Appropriate Masami would have figured that Appropriate was central to the theme of the deck, as he obvious ran it in multiples and wanted to bring it out on the first turn. The focus, then, would not be on attacking but rather ensuring that the deck ran enough defense to withstand the barrage long enough; the reveal of defender should have made that strategy even more clear. In that scenario, since the robot did not flip up the face down card, the safe assumption would have been that it was not a continuous trap card that would hamper the situation, but a small, temporary fix, and not one that he saw fit to disrupt the Alien's from potentially gaining huge advantage via its counters.
And as the deck was defensive in nature, it was not likely to take advantage of an empty field even if the Ojama or Alien was destroyed, giving either player the ability to play recklessly considering how overextended the robot was. Furthermore, in a two versus one situation, it was not likely to try to game any of the opponents without fear of retaliations—especially after he had already dwindled his hand and options.
It was simply a case of bad reads and bad play on all sides, and Masami couldn’t help but find it discouraging that the professor would use this particular case as an example to anchor a lecture. That was certainly excellent use of Kaiba’s resources—failing to hire a deck construction professor and attempting to use a bad example as a means of addressing both the dueling and deck construction dilemmas. She silently doodled in her notebook, choosing to stop thinking about the bad play in the event that it would upset her good mood.

Ivan put down his book as he saw the teacher get up, and begin class. As he saw the lights turn out and a projection start playing a duel. "This is one from last class," he heard the teacher said. Ivan saw as it went on turn by turn until exodia was played. "Wow, that was fast," Ivan thought to him self.
As he was about to open his mouth to answer, but he was cut off by another student. Ivan decided to stay quite as he began to listen to the student's reply. Then seeing that other students began explaining there views on the duel. Ivan decided not to answer any more because he was thinking there was no need to anymore.
(OoC: shitty post sorry)

As the lights turned back on, a grinning kid was staring at the video through his raven hair. An Exodia deck? I don't remember seeing one used in a correct manner .... although, one would argue that it was indeed an incorrect way, that would be a discussion for another day, Jeevas. He looked to his left. He had just slipped in, just barely. He didn't get to check out how he was beside. One Ivan Green. He smiled to himself. Oh, what great fun it would be to bug the hell out of him!

(sorry for my absence, everyone. work is crazy right now.)
"Quite right, quite right. This was, however, just a test duel. That deck is far from it's greatest potential, and Blinky was programmed to only use about half the ability it normally has."
Stein shrugged a bit, then leaned back against his desk with a bit of a smirk. "A warm-up is always good, as this will bring out the true strength that lies within. Now, I would like just a single volunteer this time. Another duel to base our lesson off of. Who would like to have a try? I promise a good match." His smirk grew until it looked overly confident, the nature behind it a mystery.

Immediately after he said this, someone stood up in the class, a confident smirk on their face. It was Arche. "I'll take your little contraption on. I've got a new deck that's just itching for victims." As she said that, she pulled out a new deck, one quite different from the Swarm deck she needed to work more on.

Marvelo scratched his head at the thought. Dueling the mechanism would be interesting, but did he want to reveal his decks to everyone so openly. When everyone is dueling simultaneously, people tend to devoid from his strategies and gestures. However, everyone would analyze his duel. Mistakes would be seen and everything would come to the open on how Marvelo Namaguchi dueled. A smirk gestured on his face as he began to raise his hand to take the gesture.
However...
A Slifer's hand beat him to the chase. Turning to her, Marvelo slowly lowered his hand. Let's see what she can do. Slifer's always did dazzle him with their hope and abilities. Most even put themselves their on purpose, knowing fully that they're a better duelist. How upsetting. Folding his arms, Marvelo took out his deck and began randomly shuffling it. Rallis appeared with a small flash of light on his shoulder. He chuckled at the timing of her appearance.
"Couldn't avoid coming could you?" Marvelo said quietly.
"I have my reasons," Rallis returned quickly as if expecting the question. Her head was held high in a pompous way. She was trying to ignore Marvelo. Once again their personalities clashed and the satisfaction that was Marvelo was right about her appearance was angering Rallis.
