December. A time of cold, snow, and endless hot chocolate, not to mention some major holidays and time of fun. Jaeger didn't hate the cold and snow like some did, but he didn't necessarily like it, either. It was a neutral sort of relationship, though the sudden drop in temperatures had sent the Slifer student into the nearest building for warmth. A lot of aimless wandering later had brought him to the Arena, the very Arena he had suffered a horrible defeat in at the hands of one Obelisk Blue named Matt.
With that thought long gone and a little shrug, he trotted into the room, giving the seats around a little look over. If he got caught here, there was a possibility that he could get into trouble. Well, if it happened, it happened. For now, the student was just glad to get out of the December weather. He stretched his arms upwards, stifling a little yawn. The weight from his Duel Disk pulled down on his arm, reminding Jaeger just what this Arena was for. It didn't seem like anyone else was here at the moment, though. That sucked. Jaeger doubted there was any hot chocolate in the Arena, or anywhere else in the main building for that matter, so there was nothing else to do but duel. And with a lack of opponents, that was going to be a bit difficult to accomplish.

hoshi just walked into the arena, a little nervous about this. He wasn't too sure about this, not having os much confidence in his skill as a duelist. Especially after his last duel. But he was here... He might as well have a look. With a comforting nod from Nyan, who had just appeared, he started to walk around the arena, in his red blazer. Probably signaling to people 'Hey, easy target here! It's a newb!' for all he knew but he wanted to ignore that.
"Cheer up, HOshi! I'm sure you'll win the next duel! You just got unlucky!"
"I wish that was true, Nyan..."
Silent, he noticed the boy on the other side, immediately freezing up. Uh oh... There was someone else here. Was he looking for a fight? Noticing the uniform on him, he relaxed slightly. So it was someone on his level... That was a relief. So if there was a duel, they should be on even footing. slowly, he waved to the other person, hesitant.

With the silence in the Arena, you could hear a pin drop, and the voice of the Slifer who had just walked into the place was clear for Jaeger to hear. Though confused at first, because he didn't recognize the voice and because someone else was in the Arena, Jaeger shrugged it off, considering himself lucky. So someone else had found their way here today. That was good for him. If the person wanted to duel, that was.
Jaeger lifted a hand, waving back with a smile on his face. "Hey! Trying to get out of the winter cold, too?" Small talk, maybe, but it was best to get some sort of conversation going before jumping right into something like, "Up for a duel?" Which was exactly what came out of Jaeger's mouth at this point.
This Slifer wasn't at all like most of the other lets-duel-until-we-can't-move students. Jaeger wasn't trying to come off as overly excited about the idea, or overconfident, just simply stating a question. If this kid didn't want to duel, then oh well. Jaeger would have to find something else to occupy his time with. If he did, then let the fun begin.

Hoshi just gulped as he was challenged, nervous. Instantly, Nyan put a hand, or paw, really, on his hsoulder. "It's okay. Stay calm. You can do this." With those comforting words, he just looked back at the boy ahead of him. "Um... I just wanted to look around... but I'll duel you if you really want..." Silently, he got his duel disk from his backpack, putting it on his left arm. Next, his deck, which slotted in cleanly as Nyan faded away.

His challenge was accepted. Great! At least this would waste a good portion of time. And having a good duel was always fun for Jaeger. Seeing other decks, strategies, and even just the different monsters that made up the game. He slotted his deck in, activating the Duel Disk. "I'll take the first turn, then." With his hand drawn, Jaeger went right to it.
"I'll set three cards in the backfield and summon Pitch-Black Warwolf to the field." The giant dark colored wolf took to the field, the blade in it's hand glinting dangerously. The Warwolf growled, but it couldn't attack this turn, saving the boy if only for a bit. The two facedown's appeared behind the monster. "And I'll end." Now it was time to see what this kid could do.

Hoshi gulped as he saw the beast, backing off a bit as he saw it. This was bad... However, Nyan just put a hand on his shoulder, saying, "Don't worry! I'll help out!" Slowly, she faded out as he drew his hand, seeing her. 'Thank goodness.' he thought ot himself, quickly becomming more determined. "First, I'll play Meteor of Destruction!" As he held up the card, a fireball appeared overhead, surrounding a chunk of rock. "It can only bne played when my opponent has more than 3000 life points but it deals 1000 points of damage!" The space rock waited a few seconds longer before shooting towards Jaegar, dealing the pain it promised. "Now I'll go on the attack!" he said, placing a monster on the field. "Go! Nyan Nyan!" The monster sprung out, glaring at the wolf as she appeared.
"G-get rid of him!" he cried, the pair about to do battle. But right as it was starting, a card was flipped, revealing the spell it was. Suddenly, Warwolf got a boost of speed, cleaving right through Nyan and causing her image to shatter. "Wh-what?" was all he could say before he felt the attack hit him too, causing him to cry out and fall to the ground. Slowly, he got back to his feet, thikning to himself. It was a trap... I ran right into it... I'm an idiot, I got Nyan hurt because of that... Depressed, he just skipped the rest of his turn, saying, "Th-that's all..."

It wasn't that bad of a move. If Jaeger hadn't set Rush Recklessly his first turn, that Nyan Nyan would have been a problem to deal with, but the other Slifer's field was wide open. No spells or traps were there to stop him. This duel would end quickly unless the kid had something else in his deck.
"My move." Jaeger drew his card, placing it in his hand and selecting a different one. "I'll summon Wolf Axwielder!" The armored wolf took to the field next to Pitch-Black Warwolf. Both would look fierce to someone without any defense. "Both Wolf Axwielder and Pitch-Black Warwolf attack directly!" The two wolves moved in, swinging their weapons at the poor boy receiving the attack. 3250 points of damage would be inflicted in total.

Hoshi just felt himself get launched by the attack, almost out of breath as he fell down. That attack had really hurt. Slowly, he managed to get up, breathing heavilly. "D-draw..." he said, picking up his next card. It was useless in this situation. If only Nyan was here... She would have beaten both of these monsters easily. But because of his stupidity, he wouldn't win. All he could do was place a monster in defence and a card facedown, hoping for a miracle. "T-turn end..." he said, almost about to break down.

A monster and a facedown to think about. That monster would prove to halt at least one of his attacks, depending on what the defense points were. At least Pitch-Black Warwolf's effect would stop traps from activating during the battle phase. "I'll summon another Wolf Axwielder, and attack your facedown with Pitch-Black Warwolf." The monster was destroyed, but it's flip effect activated, letting the other Slifer add Demise to his hand.
"Now both Axwielders attack directly!" The two gray colored wolves moved in for the attack, taking out 3300 points. The duel wasn't over yet, and it would be these last few turns that determined how it truly ended.

Hoshi just crumpled to the floor as the two attacks struck, leaving the poor boy to just lay there. If you waited patiently enough, you'd hear him crying, completely crushed. He coudln't attack. He couldn't defend. Even if he managed to pull off the combo he had access to, he woudln't even have decent life points to fight with. Next turn was probably his last one... Slowly, he got up, enough to kneel, and started to place his hand over his deck, a symbol meaning that the duelist had forfitted. And Hoshi was about to do that. He had lost hope in his hand, in himself. It was over.
"I..."
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING?"
Suddenly, he leaped back, looking around for the owner of the voice. "Wh-what? What's going on?" Soon, the other spirit there appeared, looking furious.
"What on earth are you doing?! You still have cards! You can still fight! So do it!"
"But... I can't... The opponent's too strong..."
"So what? do I have to do everything by myself? You still have that combo!"
"But I can't use the effect..."
"Does it matter?! Do it!"
Immediately, he said, "Y-Yes!" getting back up. Trembling, he just picked up his next card, his face lighting up. It was a really good monster! But he had one better... Quickly, he said, "I'll play Ritual Forgone!" Suddenly, a runic circle appeared, getting Hoshi in it. "It coasts 1000 life points but I can special summon a ritual monster from my hand without the spell card and tribute requirement! It can't attack and it's destroyed during the end phase but I can still use it" Quickly, he took a card from his hand, feeling the sudden drain on his body as his life points were beginning to scrape the barrel. That was it. One attack would finish him now. Any card in the game had the power to destroy him if he was attacked directly. "I'll now summon Demise, King of Armageddon!" The dreadded monster slowly appeared, a dark fog covering the ground as it arrived. However, it didn't seem as strong... It didn't have the effect it would have normally, with Hoshi's life points too low to use it. "But I'm not done, I'm tributing him!" Immediately, the warrior started to turn into black light, shining out and blinding the two duelists.
"I summon Great Maju GArzett!!!"
As everyone was able to see again, they could see the powerful being in front of them, fists clenghing as a smirk appeared on it's face. That was a nice power boost. "It's effect is that it takes the power of the monster used to tribute it and doubles it! Since Demise's attack was 2400, Maju's is 4800!" Roaring aloud, it decided upon the beast nearest it, swiping at it. However, another reverse card was revealed, negating the damage from the attack. Hoshi just breathed a sigh of relief though. He had a shot still. "I end my turn." Silently, he looked up at the demon, saying, "Thank you..." getting nothing to signal that he had heard him or cared in any way.

That was a move to remember. One draw would have changed the entire duel around. If it weren't for Waboku, Jaeger wouldn't of had the cards he needed for his next move. 4800 attack points was a force that few cards could take down normally. Most of the cards in his deck wouldn't be able to stop that Maju. Thankfully, though, Jaeger had the one card that could end this in his hand.
"I tribute my three monsters to summon Beast King Barbaros! And since I tributed three monsters to summon it, all cards you control are destroyed." With 50 points left and an empty field, this duel was done for. "Now, Barbaros! Attack him directly!" The Beast King moved in for the attack, depleting the last few points from Jaeger's opponent. When the counter hit zero, the holograms on Jaeger's side disappeared, leaving just the smiling Slifer standing there.
"That was a really great duel! You would have had me there at the end. Luck of the draw, I guess, but that move you pulled off, using Ritual Forgone and Demise to get Maju out like that. That's a great combo!" Jaeger grinned, rubbing the back of his neck with one hand while walking over to the other Slifer. "Name's Jaeger Turrok, by the way." The grin toned down to a smile, but Jaeger's friendly nature had already taken over.

Hoshi was just launched across the arena, his only force of defence destroyed. He... was done for. His monsters were useless. He coudln't get a single hit in. laying on the ground, he broke out in tears, Maju unable to say anything. He had been so easilly swept aside and that infuriated him. Hoshi had played perfectly well the entire time. He had done great, he had to admit. But his opponent had overpowered him- no, all of them without any trouble at all. His monsters didn't have a scratch on them. All of Hoshi's best were in the grave.
The young boy couldn't take it anymore, unsure if he could have done even worse in the duel. He failed them all. Arche, who had thought he was a really good duelist, his parents, who thought he would have done well in the academy, and even his own deck, which Arche had helped him make. He had failed... He was a failure... As the boy came over, he just said, "Go away..." tears flowing unchecked. he wasn't holding his cards anmore, letting them slip to the ground.

Well, this wasn't good. The defeat had really gotten to the other Slifer student. Jaeger paused, unsure about what to do. He was never good in situations like these. What could he do? Just standing here and watching the boy cry wasn't doing anyone any good. His mind was just a blank slate on how to cheer this kid up. Jaeger had been thoroughly impressed by the last move that the boy had made. Scratching his head now, Jaeger crouched down next to him, pushing the fallen cards into a small pile so they weren't scattered in the immediate area. "Don't get too down on yourself. From what I saw, you have a great deck, and one heck of a combo. Somehow, I just managed to get the cards I needed. If you had managed to wipe out my monsters or backfield during a main phase, I would have been royally screwed." He tilted his head and smiled at the other student.
"Barbaros is my best card. If you had managed to wipe that out, it would have been over for me." That wasn't the complete truth, as Jaeger had traps in reserve for an occasion like that, bit Barbaros was indeed his strongest monster.

Hoshi stopped sobbing for a bit after hearing that, saying, "no..." He just continued to lay there, depressed. "I... Maju was my best card... I don't have anything left..." Slowly, he started to stand,, still depressed. "Even then, you had a plan just in case... You would have won..." he then started crying again, starting to remove his duel disk. "You're better than I ever could have been... your deck's better, your skills are better... and unlike me, you actually know how to use both of them... but unlike you, I can't even do anything... I failed my deck... I failed those that helped me..." Suddenly, he threw the disk away, his deck going with it as he ran out. "I-I DON'T DESERVE TO BE A DUELIST!" If any other cries were made, they wouldn't have been heard.
Nyan, who had just woke up from teh attack, noticed Hoshi running away in distress. "W-wait, Hoshi!" She could feel his anguish from the defeat. He had been through too much. She noticed that she coudln't move away from the spot to follow him... since he had left his deck behind. Seeing this, she became horrified. No... He... Is he... Turning again, she kept yeling out. "Hoshi! Don't just leave! Please... Don't give up on us..." She started to cry too, crumpling to the ground.
"N-no..." she said. "it should be... Don't give up on yourself... Please, HOshi..."

This was wrong. Just plain wrong. sure, Jaeger had beaten him, but only because he had plain dumb luck with drawing. If he didn't have Barbaros in his hand then slowly his cards would have been wiped out by Maju. And for someone to be in this much depression made Jaeger wonder how many duels the kid had lost to get this way. Being in Slifer was bad enough, but to have your self-confidence slowly beaten down duel by duel was adding to it.
Jaeger watched the boy run out of the Arena, leaving both Duel Disk and deck behind. If things could get any worse, Jaeger really hoped life would be kind and just let the boy have the rest of the day off. With a sigh, he picked up the Duel Disk and the cards that had been left on the floor, slotting them in with the rest of the deck.
"Geez, what to do now? I didn't even get his name. Hopefully it won't be too hard to track him down." Jaeger looked at where the kid had ran off to, then back at the Duel Disk. "Man, this really sucks. I had been hoping to avoid any actual exercise." Turning, Jaeger took off after kid, determined to return the deck to its rightful owner.
