"Damn that ferry ride was long!" Daisuke Takeda jumped from the rail of the ferry and onto the pier, his backpack smacking the small of his back, and his longish purple-silver hair flailing with the breeze he caused. He stood up and took a breath of fresh air and stretched. So this was the new school for him, huh?
Some students looked at him with weird looks because of his little stunt, but he didn't care right now. He'd been in a kind of dark, depressed mood when he first got on the ferry, but he must have taken a liking to the sea, because he felt great right now! perhaps he would end up in his bad mood again, but not now.
He straightened his new Slifer Red blazer and hefted his new Academy-Issued Duel Disk. Embedded within its newly issued claws was his trusty deck, and he smiled as he looked at it. Behind him, a young, dark angel appeared and crossed her arms on his shoulders. "You seem to be feeling better. Excited, are we?" she giggled with a soft voice. Her smile showed that she was happy, and well she should be! This was the first time she'd seen Daisuke smile in a long time!
"Yeah, I guess you could say that," he smiled and lowered his duel disk. "Now I just gotta figure out where I'm goin!"

Why was it that the island's edge proved to be the best place for a walk? The breeze off the ocean? The sound of the waves as they lapped at the rocks? Maybe it was the lack of students and faculty that made it so enjoyable? The less people around, the less change of being asked to a duel. Not that Jaeger minded taking part, it was just nice to relax and enjoy the day every once in a while. With his hands behind his head, Duel Disk attached to his wrist, and a lazy smile on his face, the boy meandered along the edge of the island, nearing the docks where most every new student appeared.
Lazily glancing at the docks, Jaeger couldn't help but chuckle. Speak of the devil. There was a ferry there now, dropping new students off on the island. There was nothing like being a newbie at Duel Academy, not knowing where anything is or how daily life usually happened here. Jaeger remembered those days. He still had a few of them. The variety of students could often leave one guessing on just how to handle the day.
Pausing in his walk, lowering his arms so they dangled by his sides, Jaeger smiled at the new boy. Well, since he was here, why not show the new kid around? It would give Jaeger something to do, and help this kid out. "Welcome to Duel Academy. Don't be intimidated by the other students here. Most are harmless."

Hikari (the name that Daisuke had given Dark Valkyria) giggled as the Slifer boy approached them. "Looks like you got some company!" She tussled Daisuke's hair and watched the event unfold. Daisuke looked at the younger Slifer and waved.
"Haha! Me? Intimidated? Never!" He thrust his right hand out in front of him. "The name's Takeda! Daisuke Takeda!" He did not know who this boy was, but he wasn't about to be rude. Besides, maybe this kid could help him find his dorm. "So, you're a Slifer too, huh?" He scratched the back of his head. "You wouldn't happen to know where the dorms are, now, would ya?"
"You don't waste any time when your excited, Dai-kun" Hikari wrapped her arms around his neck, letting them hang down his chest. If one could see them, one might think they were lovers, or perhaps siblings. Luckily, she was a duel spirit, so not many could see her.

With a greeting like that, this kid was alright in Jaeger's book. It didn't seem as if this new kid, Daisuke, was worried at all. That was good. The less nervous someone was, the less awkward moments of silence there would be to deal with, and that worked just fine for Jaeger.
His smile widening a bit, Jaeger shook the hand Daisuke offered. "Jaeger Turrok. You're the second person to ask me that." Jaeger gave a little laugh. "I know it's that direction," he jerked a thumb over his shoulder, pointing the way he had come from, "but other than that, I can't give any specific directions. It's one of those things were you know where to go, but you can't put anything in detailed descriptions." Daydremaing most of the time and not paying attention to where one was going didn't helped a bit, either.
"The dorms aren't that hard to miss, though. You know them when you see them." Jaeger had only ever seen the Slifer dorms and thus couldn't really compare how different they were from Ra or Obelisk, but, to him, the Slifer dorms were home for now and would always have that feel, no matter how loud and obnoxious his roommate could be at times.
And, whether fortunately or unfortunately, Jaeger couldn't see duel spirits and the one with Daisuke didn't reach his ears or eyes. For him, it was just the two boys standing there, enjoying a welcoming conversation. Too bad Daisuke wouldn't be able to exchange duel spirit stories with Jaeger.
