I've seen some references in posts and biographies where people allude to Duel Monsters as a "children's card game." Why is this the case?
Sure, the actual TCG/OCG of Yu-Gi-Oh may be aimed at the younger audience. Pretty much every hobby game is. But I see nothing in the YGO universe to suggest that this is the case. You see people of all ages in the manga/anime who duel, and it seems to be primary method of settling disputes.
So what makes it a children's card game in-universe? Duel Monsters seems to be anything but a children's card game. It's closer to the magna carta or the constitution than it is a game for kids.

well, I don't know about it being referred to one in-universe...I do know that it's jokingly referred to as such in the Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged series...one of my personal favorites being "I've been beaten in a children's card game! I have no reason to live!"
So...I dunno...maybe that's started a trend?...or something?...I dunno >.>;

I'm aware of where it came from. I use it OOCly myself. I'm wondering where the IC use would come from. That's what doesn't make any sense.

The Yu-Gi-Oh! Anime was actually aimed at adults, that was why it has had to be censored so much before it could be distributed in the USA and the UK and other countries, because of its references to violence, death, religion etc.
I suppose its probably so ... worshiped? in the Anime/Manga, is because its so ... I don't actually know ... maybe its like such a popular form of entertainment that it has become a sport, like boxing, and its transgressed from sport into a part of every day life, something that everyone does, a bit like the internet maybe ... of course thats just the Anime/Manga, in reality ... I play a little, but just with friends, so I guess that since its such an easy (SAY WHAT!) game to learn how to play, and promotes Mathmatics and ... ENGRISH! maybe that's why it would be seen as a children game ... of course this may make no sense to anyone but me ... in which case ...

Well, I don't know. I don't see that much of a problem with referring to it as a children's card game within the biographies. However if they're directly saying within a post, "It's a children's card game", that's probably incorrect. On the other hand that's also something where you could argue that your character thinks that the game is so simplistic that it could be played by children. The bottom line is that I personally view it as so minor a detail that it's not really worth having a fuss over.
