It was nearly midnight at the academy. The sky was cloudy, blocking out almost all the light that the moon could have provided. The only light that pierced the cover of darkness was the lighthouse, but even then it was as if the light was being swallowed up by the darkness around. It was ominous, to say the least. Still, Matt walked cautiously along with small stone path leading to the lighthouse itself, careful not to take a wrong step and fall into the water below.
"Man. What is with this darkness?" he said to himself. He had come out here to investigate the injuries that Professor Grant had sustained. He had been found near lighthouse, so if there were any easy clues to find, it was at the lighthouse. As he approached the structure however, he realized that the darkness was too thick to make a proper search of the premises, despite the light the lighthouse emanated.
"Damn. Talk about creepy..." he said, to himself again. There was nothing he could do for now, sight wise. And he wasn't keen to swimming in November weather... Still, perhaps something would come to him. As a last ditch attempt to find something, Matt entered the tall building beside him. Perhaps something inside would clue him into what happened. Yet, when he reached the top, nothing was there. It was completely normal.
With a disappointed sign, Matt sat down and waited. Maybe he'd spend the night here and search in the morning?

Duncan, as the Jack of Shadows was approaching the lighthouse. Today, he was going to admire his latest crime. Professor Grant was using the deck of an old fool. That was a fatal mistake, he should have used power if he wanted to stop him. When Duncan approached the top, he found a long haired boy. Another victim, eh? Oh this would be so perfect. Number five was up on the hook.
"Hello there, what brings you here?" he asked in his demonic tone. The Devil's Disk manifested itself onto his arm. One of two things would happen. One, he would run like a wuss. Two, he would be a man and fight. Either way suited him.

Matt had only been sitting for a few minutes before he heard someone walking up the stairs. The old saying 'they always return to the scene of the crime' popped into Matt's head. He stood up, looking at the door as it opened and another entered the room. Although it was dark as hell, Matt could make out another young man roughly his own age. Mat had no time to voice his words before the other spoke, his voice sounding evil; demonic even. No shiver went down Matt's spine, even when a duel disk materialized from the young man's arm out of nowhere.
"Neat little trick there. So I take it you're behind the recent disappearances?" Matt asked. He grabbed his own duel disk, the Rebellion, from his belt at his waist. So the kid wanted to duel? Matt would be more than happy to oblige. He took out his newest deck, a deck he had made that afternoon after his encounter with the small visitor, and inserted it into his duel disk. Flashes from Vahn's training flew through his mind as his duel disk activated, it's violet lights piercing the darkness.
"Well, let's go. If I win, you release everyone you've kidnapped. If I lose, I'll beat the hell out of you and still make you release them." Matt said. Even as he spoke though, he could feel a headache coming. Although he did not believe in shadow magic, he had a high sensitivity to it. It always happened during class, near the Shadow Science classroom, and even the library. He held his head for a second before shaking the headache to the back of his thoughts. He had to concentrate.

"If I win, I do release the hostages. But if you lose, you become one." He then cackled demonically, sliding his deck into the slot. Oh yes, this boy looked like a fine meal, fearless now. He would exploit the fear from this fool. "Duel!" he shouted.
((YVD Duel: Winner is Matt Hirama))
No, how could this have been. Necroface defeated him, how ironic. The one card in the arms of the Maiden was used to kill the maiden. Gripping his head, he screamed in pain. The voice was not demonic, but a scream in a voice that Matt might recognize. The outfit of the Jack faded to nothingness, and the Jaw crumbled to dust.
Duncan Black was behind the mask. "No, no, NOOOOO!" he shouted in disbelief. With that, the prison he set up crumbled to dust, and the soul of Jame Grant would return to his body. As for Amelia Force, she would lay there on the mountains. Unconscious, and restrained the way she was brought in. Now, the perpetrator was revealed to the brave youth. However, Duncan would now cackle insanely.

The duel had been... strange, to say the least. During his first turn, he had gained over ten thousand LP, but instead of just a small aura and continuing the duel, Matt had actually felt as if he was gaining stamina with each point gained. And when he had run into Mirror Force, he had actually felt the shock wave fly past him. And last but not least, when he had activated his D.D. Dynamite trap card, he could feel the heat and the force from the explosion. Was it all just a mind game, or was he actually feeling the effects of the cards? Even after his Gen Maju had attacks for the game, he could feel the ground shaking beneath him from the epic blow, and a small crater could be seen where the monster's fist had impacted his opponent's monsters.
After monsters had faded from sight and the duel had ended, Matt looked on to his opponent, ready to question what had really just transpired. Yet, before he could even speak, his opponent had begun screaming. It sounded almost desperate, but Matt only stood back and watched, his face bearing no remorse or sympathy for his opponent. He watched as his opponent's clothes and mask faded into nothingness, only to reveal Duncan Black, another student. Matt was surprised, though such emotion did not pass his face.
Even as Matt watched on, he listened as his opponent's screams turned to laughter. It was an insane laugh, one Matt never though he would hear from another outside of movies or video games. He still did not move, his gaze staring at his opponent through the darkness around them. Whatever happened next, Matt could not tell...

"So, its over for me now, isn't it?" he said with his cackle. However, he had no intention of going to the loony bin after this. "Well congratulations Matt! You sir are a hero! And a party pooper." he said bitterly, yet with the cackle. Now that the power was no more, Matt was going to turn him in. Take him to the pigs to be interrogated and then locked in a cage.
No, he would never surrender himself. He wasn't going to allow them to take him alive. Aside from causing terror on the island, he also assaulted rent-a-cops at the Domino Museum. And of course, stole the Jaw of Anubis. "Well Matt, have fun with your victory . . . " he said stepping backwards.
Even though his movement seemed stupid and clumsy, he intended to trip over the cord. He was going to plummet into the sea. He was going to leave them to wonder about his motives, his plans. Even though he had a room littered with sickening sketches, he wasn't stupid enough to leave plans in there. He had one fail safe storage place, his head. And now, he would lock up the head for good.
Poor Setsuna though, she would lose a fucking man friend. When he was within a few steps of the cord, he grinned at Matt. "See you in hell, boy!" he yelled. He then set his plan into motion, tripping backwards on the cord. The trip sent him through the window of the lighthouse. With a final insane cackle, he then thought about that day.
The day he watched his parents commit suicide. He never knew why they did it, but they didn't even notice him when they kissed each other that one last time. Then, they shot each other in the face. Now he was going to plummet to his death. Oh well, he was going to go to hell anyway, not that that bothered him. He was honestly going to enjoy hell.

Matt remained silent, even as Duncan spoke of his own defeat and laughed. This kid had gone insane, or always had been insane. Which of the two, Matt could not tell, but as the Slifer neared the edge of the lighthouse, Matt realized what he planned to do. Even as Matt ran forward to stop him, he already knew it was too late to prevent it.
"See you in hell, boy!"
Matt did not reach out as he approached. It was too late, and all he could do was watch the other duelist plunge from the window as he laughed one last time. Matt had questions about what had just transpired, why the duel had seemed so real, and why Duncan had said what he said. Was he really that insane, or did he know something Matt didn't? Perhaps it was just a mind game. Matt wouldn't know, even as he stood at the edge of the lighthouse, staring into the darkness below him.
After a minutes, Matt reentered the lighthouse and looked around. Twisted sketches littered the room, but they were of no use to Matt right now. After a moment to let what had just happened sink in, Matt descended the light house. Even near on the pier, Duncan's body could not be seen, and Matt was not about to look. He needed answers more than anything, and he knew of only a few people who would likely give said answers.
After taking yet another few minutes to stare into the sea, Matt left. He needed to see Vahn and question him about this, though he loathed to admit he needed help from his former teacher. The man was also so quiet and philosophical, and always so serious. Perhaps after a year of not talking to the man had raised his tolerance for his old mentor's behavior.
