The first day of class had been interesting, if not a bit different from how the Slifer thought classes would take place. It was more entertaining and eventful than Jaeger had first thought it might be. Still, the homework left him a little behind. The teacher had given the class homework to duel someone of a different rank. That sucked for poor Jaeger who barely knew anyone out side of the Slifers. Still, it was a way to meet new people. That was one advantage to this.
Sitting in the seats surrounding the Arena, Jaeger had his hands behind his head and reclining back where he was sitting. Stein had told them to duel in the Arena, but it didn't look like there was anyone here or even nearby. "Maybe they're all outside. Having fun dueling outside is a lot better than being cooped up inside. Still, it's a nice step up in here." A smile crossed Jaeger's face, and he stretched his arms up over his head, stifling a yawn.
"Man, I need someone to duel."

Ah the weekend... There was nothing like having 48 hours or so of free time to do... something. And this is where the problem presented itself for Matt. He didn't know what to do this weekend after his date with Recita, and he had spent most of the time in his dorm room looking through his decks or at work, bored out of his mind. Then he remembered that he had to do that homework assignment for the dueling class. If anything, it would provide at least one duel's worth of entertainment, right?
Thus, Matt found himself within the large dueling arena. While it seemed that some construction and maintenance was going on, the arena was still operational. Matt's guess that Stein's reuest had been granted by the headmistress, and was being installed right now. He grinned at th though of being able to duel someone whenever he was bored and had nothing else to do. Still, that wasn't why he was here. He gazed over the unusually empty arena until his gaze landed on a slifer red. He recognized him from class and could only assume he was here for the duel.
"Yo! You here for the homework assignment as well?" Matt asked as he approached. Considering everyone else was nowhere to be seen right now, Matt figured it was best to duel the Slifer to get the assignment done without waiting for someone else. Still, he wasn't sure if the Slifer would accept the challenge, seeing as he was in Obelisk. Obelisk didn't have much of a good reputation these days, after all. Not outside of being the top duelists of the school anyways. Still, Matt wasn't the domineering or uptight kind of person, which still seemed to surprise some Ras and Slifers for some reason.

Jaeger's eyes were drooping, coming close to closing completely before snapping open. He had to stay awake, just in case anyone showed up. Not to mention the seats weren't exactly comfortable. Falling asleep in one of them was just asking for back troubles. It would be an interesting thing to explain, though, and a great way to get out of any physical work. Which had the most perks? Ditching his homework, or getting out of having to work?
In any case, a duel was a duel, and one would happen eventually. It was better to get it out of the way now and write it off as homework. Calling it homework, though, really took the fun out of dueling. Dueling was better than having to pay for chiropractor, that was for sure. Alright, if falling asleep wouldn't work, then how about seeing how many times he could crack his back? That would prove to be some sort of entertainment.
About to start the crack-filled symphony, Jaeger paused as a voice that wasn't his own rang about the arena. A student? Blinking at the blue-clad Obelisk, Jaeger sat forward. This kid looked familiar, but he couldn't place where exactly. Then again, if he was talking about the assignment, it had to be for Duel Class. "Yeah, but there aren't many people to duel in here." Having never come face-to-face with a stuck-up Obelisk yet, Jaeger didn't have any prior experience to compare this boy to.
"My name's Jaeger. I take it you're here for the homework, as well?"

Matt eyed the younger Slifer for a few moments, allowing a silence to fall between the two. He wasn't trying to be rude or anything. He had just noticed now bored and tired the other student seemed, and wondered if he had been present at the arena for a while. It sure looked like it, considering Jaeger had been close to falling asleep in his chair just before Matt had approached him. Still, after the moment of silence between the two, Matt nodded an affirmative to the Slifer's inquiry.
"Matt Hirama." He started, introducing himself before continuing, "I've been busy up until now, though. This is the first chance I've gotten all day..."
It was true. Matt had skipped out of two of his study hall periods to go on a date earlier that day, but those were classes he didn't really care much for anyways. Some of his friends knew that he hated Shadow Sciences and Duel History, seeing as they usually talked about the hocus pokus shadow magic and ancient Pharaohs. Matt had been skipping those classes ever since he was a Slifer. And while he had elected to not take those classes this year, they still stuck him in study hall.
"Well, since we're the only ones here, you up for that duel?" Matt asked, a bit of excitement hinted in his voice at the thought of a duel. Slifer or not, Matt wouldn't underestimate his possible opponent.

The silence was a bit unnerving. Jaeger fidgeted a bit during that time, just shifting in how he was sitting. It wasn't the silence that really bothered him, but the fact that he was being stared at was a bit unsettling. Finally, though, the other boy had introduced himself as Matt. This wasn't a bad way to start out a meeting! No names were being tossed around, no fights taking place, just a nice, friendly conversation.
And, apparently, a duel, too.
"Why not? It's a good way to pass the time and get the homework out of the way." Jaeger pushed himself out of the chair, stretching his arms above his head once more. He had no doubt that Matt was a better duelist than him, in terms of cards and strategy, but that didn't deter Jaeger any. A duel was a duel no matter how you looked at it, and it was fun even if you lost. Besides, their teacher never said they had to win a duel. He trotted to the main floor, getting his deck out in the process.

Matt grinned when his opponent accepted his challenge. This way, he'd get his homework done quickly and he'd be able to enjoy a duel while he was at it. Once his opponent began moving towards his spot of the dueling arena, Matt jogged over to his own. As he went, he grabbed his duel disk, the Rebellion, from his belt, along with his deck. Shoving the deck into it's place on the disc, he turned to face his opponent and drew his five beginning cards, plus an extra for his turn. He was going to be testing an incomplete deck this time around, but it should still work just fine.
"Alright! I'll start this duel off with the spell card Foolish Burial! This spell allows me to send one card from my deck straight to the grave. I choose to send my Quillbolt Hedgehog to the grave!"
As he slid the card into it's place on the disk, Quillbolt Hedgehog appeared on the field, translucent and ghost like. Before it was on the field for even a few seconds, the ghostly image was sucked into the graveyard of Matt's duel disk.
"Next up, I'll set one monster and two cards in my backrow. That will end my turn."
Matt sent his spell card to the grave, and then set the three cards onto the field. The cards' holograms appeared on the field, all face down and rather large to fit the size of the playing field. After he finished playing his cards, Matt brushed some hair out of his face and indicated he was finished with his turn. He looked down at his duel disk's violet lights, pondering his next moves as he waited for hi opponent to take his turn. Jaeger trotted to his side of the arena, watching as Matt made the first move. Sending a card to the graveyard on the very first turn? Matt had to be planning ahead. There would be no other reason for discarding a card to the graveyard. That would be sure to come bite him in the ass later. For now, though, he would focus on the three facedown cards. They posed the most problem.
At the start of his turn, Jaeger drew. "I'll start by placing one facedown and summoning Pitch-black Warwolf in attack mode." The holograms appeared in place on Jaeger's side of the field, Warwolf ready for battle. The Slifer didn't call out the order to attack, though. His gut and mind were both screaming at him to be careful, to not attack. He'd follow that instinct for now.
"With that, I end my turn."
He smiled, already liking this duel. It had only just begun and the Slifer was on edge, waiting for the next move to be played and to see the different cards that would take the field. Win or lose, neither outcome fluttered through his thought process. He was completely focused on his duel.

Matt couldn't take the grin off his face. Not after seeing his opponent's first move, anyways. It wasn't a bad move, but it was a careful one. Matt had either intimidated his opponent with his first turn, or his rank was doing the job well enough. Or perhaps his opponent knew what he was up to? Either way, Matt didn't see much problems with his next move. Not yet at least. After a moment of pondering, he drew his card and pressed a button on his duel disk, indicating one of his face down cards to reveal itself.
"I reveal both of my trap cards, Reckless Greed. I get to draw an additional two cards for each of the traps, but I must skip my next two draw phases."
Not that it really mattered to Matt. He had already drawn five cards this turn, which would more than compensate for the lack of two draw phases. He was somewhat pleased with what he drew, which only seemed to widen his grin. After sending his two traps to the graveyard, he activated another spell card.
"Next up is Upstart Goblin! I get to draw another card, in exchange for giving you a boost of 1000 life points."
Matt drew his card as his opponent's life points rose to 9000. He grin widened even more. He was nearly there already, but he doubted his opponent knew as much. All he needed was a card or two before he could finish the duel, but with the lack of draw phases, he'd have to wait after his next spell. He looked over his hand and back at the field. He had a feeling the only thing he really needed to worry about was the Slifer's face down card.
Finally, I'll activate Allure of Darkness. I draw two cards, and remove Plaguespreader Zombie from the game. I'll set one more monster, and end my turn." Face-Down | Face-Down | ------ | ------ | ------ | ------ | ------ | ------ | ------ | ------ | ------ | ------ |

Reckless Greed? That's the card that had been facedown? Not exactly a threat, but it would still pose a problem if the right cards were drawn. Was that what Matt was doing? Trying to draw the card he needed? Well, damn. If that was the case, then he had most everything planned out already. All Jaeger could do was hope that whatever card Matt was searching for didn't appear near the top of the Obelisk's deck.
Now, it was Jaeger's turn. Matt obviously knew what he was doing. The Slifer looked like he was stumbling along in comparison. His turn came, and Jaeger drew. Without any spells or traps, it was the monsters he had to worry about now. High DEF was possible, and his Warwolf only had 1600 ATK.
"I summon Skull Dog Marron in defense mode," Jaeger began, the skeleton of a dog appearing. That would prove to be some sort of protection should something strong be summoned.
Alright. With that taken care of, he moved on with his turn. "Next, I'll equip my Warwolf with Mystical Moon. His attack points gain a 300 point bonus, now." It wouldn't end there, nope. "Now, Pitch-Black Warwolf will attack your right facedown!" Effect monster or not, Jaeger's turn would end after the battle phase.

((OOC: Hey, you can't summon a monster in face-up defense position. When normal summoning a monster, it can only be set face-down in defense or face up in attack. I'll let it slide this time, but remember this for the future, so Vahn doesn't call you out on cheating.))
Matt watched as his opponent made his move. A new monster appeared on the Slifer's field, and his opponent had activated a spell card, causing a moon to appear behind his werewolf. With a 1900 attacked on his opponent's side of the field, Matt didn't seem all that worried. Even after his monster had lunged at his first of two defense cards, Matt only smiled. As the werewolf's blade came down on the card, Arcana Force 0 - The Fool appeared to block his opponent's attack. Despite have absolutely no attack and defense, it's effect prevented it from being destroyed by battle.
Nice try, but my monster can't be destroyed by battle. A nice little piece of defense, don't you think?" Matt asked. He was obviously having a good time, despite knowledge of a plethora of weaknesses for his now face-up monster. Since his opponent was not finished with his turn, The Fool lowered back down, landing in a kneeling position in front of Matt, who waited for his opponent to finish his move.

((Crap! Sorry. It's been years since I've actually dueled, as sad as that is. I'm a bit rusty.))
His attack was blocked; with a monster with 0 defense points, no less. Jaeger blinked at the opposing monster. His Warwolf returned to it's position on the field. So, it WAS an effect card! Getting through his momentary confusion, Jaeger smiled. "Yeah. It is a good defense." And with it in defense mode, no damage would be taken out of Life Points. "Alright. I'll end my turn here."

Matt watched the confusion quickly set in and dissipate almost as fast on his opponent's face. It seemed getting stopped by a monster with no points seemed to have thrown his opponents in temporary disarray. Still his opponent's turn was ended, and his mind games had been working up to this point it seemed. Still, it was near time to finish this duel. Since he couldn't draw during his draw phase, Matt would just have to force himself to draw again. Still, there were cards he wanted to save from the upcoming move.
"Alright then, my first moves are simple. I'll summon a Cyber Valley (0/0) in attack mode! Next, I'll set 2 cards in my back row and activate a spell known as Mass Driver! With this card, I can sacrifice a monster on my side of the field to deal 400 points of damage to your life points.
Matt watched as his cards materialized on the field, followed by a large cannon that was aimed directly at his opponent. He couldn't do much with said cannon yet, else he risk losing his defenses, so it would remain idle for the time being, fixed on his opponent.
"Now, I'll flip summon Morphing Jar! When this card is flipped face up, we each discard out hands and draw five new cards. After that, I'll use Cyber Valley's effect to remove my Morphing Jar and my Cyber Valley from the game in order to draw two new cards. For the end of my turn, I'll set one more card in my back row, and end my turn."
---On the beginning of Jaeger's Turn---
After he had finished his turn, and his opponent's draw phase came around, one of Matt's face down cards flipped face up to reveal Gravity Bind.
"This new trap prevents all monsters level 4 and above from attacking, including those on my side of the field. Now, let's see what you've got with that Moprhing Jar." Matt said. It looked like Matt was tossing down cards left and right, barely any time for a strategy to take place. Whatever the Obelisk had in mind, he was making it come along quickly. Cards were being tossed into the graveyard left and right! Jaeger hadn't even lost any cards from the field, yet. Matt had to be up to something, but just what had yet to be seen. His hand had been filled with new cards, and just because he couldn't attack with any level 4 or higher monsters didn't mean he couldn't summon them to the field.
"Right. First, I'll activate Fissure. It destroys the monster with the lowest attack on your side of the field, and since The Fool is the only monster you have, it gets sent to the graveyard." That cleared the field of any opposing monster, but there were still those facedown cards. Ah well, if they were anything dangerous, Jaeger would deal with the consequences.
Hopefully his next move worked. "I play Gaia Power. All Earth-type monsters gain 500 attack, and lose 400 defense. It won't do anything good for my Pitch-Black Warwolf or Skull Dog, but it does for Hyena!" Jaeger summoned the level 3 monster onto the field. "Normally, its attack points would only be 1000, but with Gaia Power's effect, they increase to 1500. And because of its low level, Hyena can attack directly!" The creature ran at Matt for an attack on his life points, ready to return to it's position once the job was done.
"And I'll finish my turn by placing one card facedown."

Matt's smile only grew as his life points were depleted by 1500. It was a small price to pay for what was to come during his next turn. His opponent ended the turn after the attack, and now it was time to end the duel. Matt still couldn't draw due to reckless greed, but Morphing Jar and Cyber Valley had given his what he needed. After a moment's worth of contemplation, Matt began his turn.
"Alright, I'll start my turn off my activating Imperial Iron Wall! With this card on the field, no cards may be removed from the game. Next, I will summon Krebons, in attack mode. This little guy is a tuner monster, which completes my strategy. With a tuner monster on the field, I can special summon Quillbolt Hedgehog from my graveyard to the field, in attack position. Then, I will tribute it for my Mass Driver's effect, dealing 400 points of damage to your life points. Since no cards can be removed from the game, Quillbolt goes back to the graveyard, allowing me to special summon him again and tribute him for Mass Driver! This cycle will continue until your life points are depleted!"
Even as Matt spoke, his trap card had activated and his Krebons had appeared on the field, juggling the geometric shapes with it's psychic powers. Not more than a few seconds had passed by until Quillbolt Hedgehog appeared on the field, only to be morphed into a white light and loaded into the Mass Driver. The inside of the cannon's golden barrel glowed before shooting a beam of energy at the Slifer. With the impact came a deduction of 400 life points from Matt's opponent, and Quillbolt Hedgehog was set to the grave, only to be special summoned again and loaded into the cannon. After a series of twenty-three relentless shots, Jaeger's LP had hit 0.
"And that's game!" Matt said simply. After the smoke from the final shot cleared, the holograms produced by the Rebellion faded, signaling the deactivation of the duel disk. The duel was over, and so was his homework, so he was in a good mood. It didn't matter if he had Skull Dog in defense or two other cards in attack mode. Jaeger braced himself against the beam, even knowing it was a hologram. With every shot, his life points fell by 400. That combination completely decimated his life points in the end. The holograms on Jaeger's side of the field faded, and the Slifer gathered his cards together from his Duel Disk.
"That was a great duel," he stated with a smile after gethering his cards. "The combo at the end was amazing, a really unexpected move." It was true, from his point of view, anyway. "Using Quillbolt's effect in that way... I was completely unprepared for it. Luckily, we were never told that we had to win the duel." A small chuckle left the duelist. "Up for a rematch in the future?" Slifer, Obelisk, Jaeger didn't care about ranks. He had a blast dueling Matt, and that's all that mattered to the boy.
