Amaya activated the card that was being targeted, which was Desert Sunlight. A scorching sun appeared on the field and her monsters slowly appeared on the field in face-up defense position. Her now visible monsters are Morphing Jar, Morphing Jar #2, and Needle Worm. Now, here is the dilemma for her though, since she gets to choose which effect resolves first, second and last. So far, she sees a safe play, and a more risky play.
Taking a look at her deck, it's obvious that she needs the more risky play right now. "Chain 1, Morphing Jar. Chain 2, Needle Worm. And chain 3, Morphing Jar #2. And since chains resolve in reverse order, first up is the effect of Morphing Jar #2." The jar grinned and started draining all monsters on the field into its body before disappearing. Thankfully, Amaya only had to discard another Reckless Greed before picking up 3 monsters. Next up is Needle Worm's effect. A barrage of needles shot at David's deck, and shooting the top 5 cards to the graveyard in the process.
Finally, a black vortex formed in the middle of the field, draining both players' hand into it. Yes, it's Morphing Jar's effect again, and both players drew another 5 cards. Now, her own deck is dangerously low, but her opponent's deck isn't looking to be in too good shape either. Hoping that her luck will still stand, she then said, "Well, either way, the duel will be over soon."

Okay... David was starting to get pretty tired of all this stuff. Amaya had to have been lying when she said her Deck had been poorly made. David's Deck was already getting dangerously thin and he had hardly been able to use hardly any of his Deck's full strength. It was annoying as well as demoralizing. But when he saw one card in particular that now sat in his new hand... Well, he was starting to get an idea. And hopefully one that would get him out of this mess.
Luckily, Amaya's stunt with Morphing Jar #2 had managed to spare David some trouble. He had been able to set three new face-down monsters without losing any of his precious cards to the Graveyard. But the disappointing part was that he wouldn't be able to Flip Summon any of them and would have to wait until his next turn to do so. All he could do now was play the cards in his hand as best as he could and hope for the best.
He lifted his gaze to the now silent Duel Field that stretched before him. The sea-serpent Jormungandr had been returned to the Deck by the effect of Morphing Jar #2, leaving only the three face-down monster in his place. But not for long. Turning his gaze to Amaya, David allowed a small but cunning grin to grace his features. "Tricky, Tricky..." he tsked at Amaya in mock-disappointed tone. "I think you were fibbing before. If that's a 'Poorly-Made Empty Jar Deck', then I'm Erik the Red. But anyway... I summon the Rune Beast - Tanngnost!"
At his command, a column of dark clouds suddenly appeared bursting from a spot on the ground next to one of the face-down cards in David's Monster Zone. Jagged veins of lightning pulsed and crackled within the cloud's body and the sounds of distant thunder rang out through the entire Duel Arena. And then, with a final crack of stormy thunder, the column clouds were blown apart and a single bolt of lightning lanced down and struck the spot where the column had been. But when the light faded, a large and sturdy grey mountain goat with enormous curving horns and wearing pieces of armor covered in runes was standing there and restlessly pawing at the floor with a hoof. It then spoke with a voice that rumbled like a distant mountain avalanche. "What's this?" it said when it saw Amaya before turning to David. "She's a cute one, young sir. But this is a most strange way of courting."
"Courting!? What are you talking about, old goat!? This is a serious Duel!" David quickly replied with a rather flabbergasted tone. Honestly... Old Tanngnost was a powerful card and a great ally, but sometimes David thought the old mountain goat was feigning his old age just to have an excuse to toy with David like that. In fact, the boy was sure of it when he saw Tanngnost's snout curve into a tiny small before he turned back to Amaya. "My lady." he heard the old goat greet to Amaya with a regal bow of his horns.
After checking Amaya's field just to make certain, David selected another two cards and set them. One in his regular Spell and Trap Zone, and the other in his Field Spell Zone. How very odd. But then, he chose another card from his hand and looked at Amaya once more with a knowing look. "And now I activate this little number... Circle of Power!"
All of a sudden, the air over the Duel Field grew dark once more and lightning flashed above the two duelists. A circle of whirling stones appeared around David and then rose above him before turning over into a vertical of stones. Each of them was emblazoned with a single rune that glowed with an eldritch power, and the area inside of the ring suddenly became dark and stormy as if it had captured a miniature typhoon.
"And now... Tanngnost will attack your middle face-down monster."
With a bleating roar that shook the rafters, Rune Beast - Tanngnost reared back onto his hind legs and entered a powerful charge that shook the Earth beneath the two duelists' feet. His horns seemed to glow with an azure light as he drew closer and closer to the face-down card that David had chosen for Tanngnost's rampage. But then, at the last moment...
Amaya had swept out her arm and the final face-down card in back row revealed itself. The Book of Eclipse. The one card that David had been hoping to destroy but had failed to. A mixture of shining light and blackest flew from the book's pages as it was opened, blowing Tanngnost back into David's territory and turning him into a face-down card like all the others he had.
But then the magic of the Book activated again, and then flipped all of his face-down monsters face-up. With another burst of light and shadow, the four cards were revealed. One was a giant sabre-toothed bear who wore pieces of armor across his body, Rune Beast - Baldyr. The second was a white horse with shimmering feathered wings that wore the garment's of a steed belonging to a noble knight, Rune Beast - Grane. And the third was of a growling wolf with grey fur decorated with waving blue lines that flickered like flame. He wore a metal faceplate that covered his eyes completely and a cloth mantle belonging to a great warrior around his neck, Rune Beast - Fenrir. Naturally, the last one to be revealed was Rune Beast - Tanngnost again.
They all gazed upon Amaya with an intelligence and determination that painted them as warriors rather than majestic beasts, and neither one of them was wearing a particularly kind face. It was also quite obvious now... that all of the monsters in David's Deck... were likely duel spirits.
After drawing his four cards due to the effect of Book of Eclipse, David set one more card into his Spell and Trap Zone and then nodded to Amaya. "I end my turn."

Amaya bowed slightly to her opponent and said, "Sorry about that, but really, this deck has never worked this well before." Really, she had never even came close to doing what she did in the current duel, and if her duel spirit didn't come into her hand when it did, she probably would have lost by now.
Now, as yet another monster she had never seen before appeared on the field, but she was quite surprised at it talking as well. A-and courting?! Amaya's blushed quite deeply at the mention of the word. She wasn't sure how to react to that, even if the duel spirit wasn't being serious... was he?
Trying to regain her focus, she quickly drew her next card. She revealed a continuous spell, Level Limit - Area B and activate it. But as the spell card started to materialize onto the field, it was blown away for a set Raigeki Break. She is now getting a little nervous, as she was about to deck out any moment now. And with her defense barrier gone, she really must rely on luck now.
After that, she showed her opponent the card, A Feather of the Phoenix, and said in a mildly nervous voice, "By discarding Foolish Burial from my hand, I can add 1 card to the top of my deck, and I choose Book of Eclipse!" She sighed in relief when she met no resistance, since that Circle of Power card is really hindering her milling power. Next, she decided to flip summon her face-down Needle Worm. As the worm appeared on the field, it started to fire its needles at David's deck again, this time sending all of his deck to the Graveyard. To finish off her turn, she set 1 monster and 2 cards in the M/T zone and said meekly to herself, "All up to lady luck now."

If David hadn't drawn Circle of Power when he had, then he would've surely lost by now. But fortunately for him, Amaya's own milling power had helped him draw at just the right time. And it was about to save his behind something fierce. "By paying 500 Life Points, I'm able to skip my normal draw and select 1 "Rune Beast" or "Rune" Equip Spell in my Graveyard and add it to my hand. I choose Rune Beast - Munin to be returned." David said coolly to Amaya.
At his command, a rumble of thunder came from within the story center of the Circle of Power floating behind David and a small mote of light came to his hand turned into a card. Now if only Amaya didn't have any more unpleasant surprises for him. Gesturing to two of the cards set into his back row, he almost seemed to be enjoying himself despite the predicament. "All right... Now I can finally show you what my Deck is about. I activate the Rune of Death and the Rune of Banishing set into my back row. I equip them to Fenrir and also activate the Rune of Battle from my hand, which I also equip to Fenrir."
At the same moment, three lights of a different color began to blaze upon the body of the armored wolf. Two of the face-downs in David's back row revealed themselves to be glowing rune stones, which sailed towards the ferocious wolf and implanted themselves on different parts of his body. One shone with a vaporous black glow and the other with a brilliant golden light. The Rune of Battle which David had played from his hand burned bright crimson and followed the other two runic lights. In the end, a runic sigil had appeared on different areas of Fenrir's body. The Rune of Death shone black on his shoulder, the Rune of Banishing shone with gold upon his right, and the Rune of Battle burned upon the middle of his faceplate.
Satisfied with this move, David continued on and gestured towards the face-down Spell in his Field Spell Zone. "And now... I summon forth the ancient homeland of the Rune Beasts! Yggdrasil the World Tree!"
A majestic green light began to glow all around David and Amaya, and then the entire Duel Arena had been transformed into something else entirely. The two duelists now stood before an enormous tree that allowed dappled rays of moonlight of shine upon the grassy floor at their feet, and a large and glowing globe of the Earth sat nestled within a crook of the tree's trunk. It was truly a sight fit for a legend. This was the very tree thought to have held the universe in its branches.
But David seemed to far too optimistic to be enraptured by Yggdrasil's glory just yet. "With Yggdrasil summoned, all of the abilities bestowed by the Rune Stones are also applied to each face-up Rune Beast on the field. Fenrir may be the one to be actually equipped with them, but all of them now share in the Rune Stones' power!" he seemed about to say more, but then thought against it in favor of continuing with his turn. "And with that... I now summon Rune Beast - Gullin!"
A towering inferno suddenly erupted from the last available spot in David's monster zone, only to suddenly expand and harmlessly burst into cinders. A warthog covered in red bristly hair and a red mane that flowed like fire appeared in the spot, snorting defiantly and pawing at the ground ready to charge. "RAAAAWWR! Let me at those stupid bugs! I saw what they were doing the whole time!"
"Calm down, Gullin." replied Fenrir, the runic sigils glowing brightly on his body. "I'm about to make sure that they bother anyone ever again. Just be patient and be ready to strike when you're told." If the wolf's eyes could be seen beneath the faceplate covering them, then they would've sure been narrowed dangerously at the four face-down monsters laying before him. This... was something he was going to enjoy.
And David couldn't agree more. "In case wondering something, Amaya... Let me fill you in on what these Rune Stones actually do. The Rune of Battle allows a monster to inflict piercing damage to an opponent after destroying a Defense Position monster. The Rune of Banishing removes the monster that the equipped monster clashed. And the Rune of Death... Negates the effect of the destroyed monster." He then gestured to the snarling wolf who was baring his fangs at both Amaya and at her unseen monsters. "And Fenrir... Gains an additional attack against a monster for every Rune that's been inscribed on him."
The words, though spoken softly, were like an ominous bell that tolled for Amaya. Fenrir could attack all four of her monsters and the Runes that were inscribed on his body could totally remove and negate the effects of her precious face-down monsters, while also inflicting piercing damage! This was definitely not going to be good.
"Fenrir! Take care of her three face-down monsters first! From left to right! Go!"
Fenrir wasted no time. After unleashing an eerie howl that echoed hauntingly through the Duel Field, the mystical wolf darted forward and opened his jaws wide to strike the first of Amaya's face-down monsters. His fangs gleamed and scythed through the Needle Worm hidden under the first card, and then through the Morphing Jar and the Morphing Jar #2 after that. Each of the monster uttered a shrill cry as their abilities were robbed of them, and then again as their forms warped and twisted before vanishing into an unknown dimension. The same thing happened to Amaya's face-up Needle Worm.
By the time Fenrir was done... A grand total of 5000 points of Damage had been delivered to Amaya.
And David still had four other monsters that were all eager to fight.
"Grane and Baldyr! Finish the job!"
At that moment, both the winged steed and the giant bear lifted their heads and unleashed yet another roar that shook the Duel Arena down to its core. Grane ascended to the sky with a flap of his white wings while Baldyr lumbered forward with his sabre-toothed jaws opened wide. He swept out at Amaya with a tree-trunk sized paw and manage to strike her in the flank, the claws passing harmlessly through her rather than tearing her to shreds. Grane, on the other hand, let out a cry that was a mixture of a horse's whinny and a hawk's shriek before dive-bombing Amaya and striking at her with wings and hooves.
And then it was all over...

Amaya instinctively shielded herself as the direct attacks came. Ah, over 8000 points of damage in one turn, so that's the power of a deck by an Obelisk Blue. Still though, she can't say she was disappointed with the result since she wasn't quite expecting to win anyways. After deactivating her duel disc, she gave David another light bow and said, "Thanks for the duel."
At this moment, Morphing Jar showed up beside her again. ~"Looks like someone got a little greedy and didn't go for the tie."~ She looked at her duel spirit and said, "Oh... s-sorry about that. It's just that Book of Eclipse was the next draw, so I though I could try my luck." The duel spirit then started laughing maniacally again, and said ~"I think that the only reason that you did that was that you are in love with your opponent, is it not?"~ Amaya blushed deeply and started to glare at her duel spirit, but it has already vanished, again. Stuttering a little at her duel spirit's comments, she turned to David and said, "Sorry about that. He doesn't really know when to stop talking."

As the duel came to an end and the image of Yggdrasil faded back into ordinary bleachers, David did the same with his duel disk and proceeded to come closer to Amaya. The only trace of the finished Duel that remained were five Rune Beasts who followed closely behind David, and then came to stand on both sides of him. Even the serpent Jormungandr made an appearance, but he appeared to be much smaller now and sat coiled up on top of David's head. He was also followed by the appearance of a tiny black griffin who had raven features instead of an eagle's and a just-as-tiny yet still majestic white stag with blue stripes like a tiger's lining his body. In fact, all of the Rune Beasts seemed to be shrinking to a kitten's size by the time David had reached Amaya.
"Naw... Think nothing of it. You think dealing with one obnoxious Duel Spirit is hard, trying dealing with eight of them." he said jokingly with a wry half-smile to Amaya, only be immediately rewarded with a heated glare and a growl from each of the duel spirits either floating around him or perching on his shoulders and head. "N-Not that any of my friends here are obnoxious in any way, of course!" he quickly stammered before things could get violent with the duel spirits. Knowing that they were the spirits of legendary beasts from Norse and Celtic mythology, well... Violence came rather naturally to them.
"Anyway, that was a great Duel you fought. I don't think I've ever actually had my entire Deck emptied right from under before." With that, he extended his hand out to Amaya to offer a friendly handshake. "You could easily make Ra Yellow with that Deck, maybe even Obelisk Blue."
At the same time, a few of the Rune Beast spirits crowding around David had started to float cautiously over to Amaya. The black griffin, Munin, who was the most inquisitive of the Rune Beasts even dared to land and sit upon the top of her head. "You smell of strong magicks, child." the tiny beast commented before he was interrupted by another of the Rune Beasts. "I'd love it if you would tell me how you came into contact with that insuffer-.... I mean, "interesting" Morphing Jar."
"Munin, get back here. You're being rude by simply perching on another's head like that." warned the majestic stag, Cernunnos, who seemed to be the most wise of the duel spirits floating around David. He simply stared firmly at Munin and gave him a look that seemed like he was about to start counting to three. Unfortunately, Munin seemed to be far too interested in Amaya to even hear him.
Meanwhile, the fiery boar named Gullin was still snorting and pawing at the air beneath his hooves. "Just wait 'til get my tusks on that li'l imp! I almost got thrown away to the Grave because o' him!" he snorted loudly before looking at Amaya straight in the air. "And besides, I know he was lyin'. This guy here is a friggin' pervert of the worst kind! There's no way someone as innocent as you would ever fall for a guy like this o-!"
"AHEM!" David coughed into a fist before throwing a glare at the talking boar. "I'm standing right here, ya know."
Gullin only turned his head to David and offered a blank and utterly oblivious stare. The fiery boar was definitely passionate about battle and dueling, but it seemed that he also wasn't the brightest bulb in the box belonging to the Rune Beasts. "What? It's true, isn't it? I'm just sayin' that ya beat her fair and square, not because o' some-...!"
"Gullin, stop. You're only embarrassing our master even further. Even if you are right about what you say." muttered the sabre-toothed bear who floated next to David's head, Baldyr. It was obvious that just by looking at him that he brimmed with a quiet and dignified strength.
At hearing that, poor David didn't know whether to thank the bear of smack of his forehead in exasperation. Why did he end up with the only duel spirits in existence who couldn't stop embarrassing him?
Meanwhile, the other Rune Beast spirits were simply watching silently and looking rather serious. The wolf, Fenrir, merely sat atop David's shoulders and seemed to be watching Amaya rather stoically, even though his eyes were covered by the faceplate on his head. The ancient goat, Tanngnost, was simply floating near the other side of David's head and was smiling wryly at the exchange of words between the other Rune Beasts. He seemed to be quietly chuckling to himself. Jormungandr the sea-serpent merely opened his jaws wide in a yawn and then coiled himself up on David's head to take a nap. And finally, the winged horse Grane just floated there close to Fenrir and was watching the entire exchange. Although, he seemed almost exasperated enough to smack his own forehead with a wing or something.

Amaya looked at David shyly as she said, "Do... do you really think so? I am still not too confident with my dueling skills though..." However, she can't help but giggle at that exchange between him and his duel spirits. She glanced up and looked at the black griffin and replied, still with a hint of shyness in her voice, "Sorry to say this, but I don't recall. He has been by my side for as long as I can remember." But he said she smelt of strong magick? She is quite confused by that, as the only special thing that she can do is see duel spirits, and sense shadow magic when it's used within her sight.
And after the boar's little outburst, she decided that she has taken quite a liking to his duel spirits. But at the mention of David being a pervert, Amaya's curiosity is perked and she asked the duel spirit, "Is he really a big pervert? What does he usually do when he is in a perverted mood?"
After she asked though, she looked back up at the spirit perched on head and asked David in a somewhat joking manner, "I like this guy, can I keep him?"

Much to David's surprise and displeasure (which the boar seemed to conveniently miss), Gullin seemed only too happy to speak about his master's more private thoughts. It was like the tiny beast didn't fully understand that being a pervert was a bad thing. He was swelling with pride about David's particular vices, almost like they made him into some sort of a "manly" man rather than a pervert. It was that point where David was immediately reminded of his old friend Jugan and moved to smack his forehead in utter exasperation. Ironically, many of the other Rune Beast spirits floating beside him sported a similar expression when Gullin started talking.
"Oh, David here is a big pervert! HUGE! Biggest of 'em all!" cheered the tiny fiery-haired boar with an enthusiastic snort at the end of his words. "He's so perverted that his eyes turn into little hearts! And he loves to go peepin' anywhere there's beautiful women. Hot Springs! Bath Houses! Dorms! You name it! Even when they catch him and beat him to a bloody pulp! His heart burns with an awesome flame that cannot be extinguished by something like that!"
Meanwhile, David was looking at his little friend Gullin with an expression that seemed so sad and betrayed.... It was more funny than it was tragic. "Why...?" the silver-haired boy began with comical anime tears streaming from his eyes. "WHY, GULLIN!? Why must you hate me so!?"
Gullin only whirled around in mid-air to face David with a look of oafish confusion. "Hate you? Why would I hate you!? Can't ya see that I'm praising your manliness to this fine dish here! Why... She'll be all over you and ripping your clothes off in no time flat when I'm done with her!"
Oddly enough, that only seemed to make David feel even worse than before.
At the same time, the tiny black griffin named Munin who perched atop Amaya's head suddenly stood up and leaned suddenly leaned over her face to look into her eyes. "Now see here!" he said with no small amount of irritation, his raven's face hanging upside down in Amaya's vision. "I'm not some pet for you to keep! Why I was one of the legendary ravens to sit upon great Odin's shoulders and whisper the news of the mortal world into his ear! I am a scholar! A poet! And most certainly not a pet!"
"Munin, the human didn't mean anything by it." interrupted the sea-serpent Jormungandr who lay coiled on David's head. "Now silence your twittering beak already. I'm trying to catch a nap here."
Welcome to "A Day in the Life of David Frost". Kind of makes you wonder how he was still sane, huh?

The more she listened to the duel spirit ranting on David's perverseness, the more Amaya's face turned red. Was Gullin being serious, or was he just exaggerating? To be honest, she can't tell, but she did look at David apologetically, as if to say she is sorry for asking that question. And she was too, but she waited until the boar finished his rant before looking at David and saying, "S-sorry...."
And then, she turned her attention to the griffin duel spirit and again, said apologetically, "Sorry about that." Amaya then gave a weak smile to David and said, "Ah, are you duel spirits always this... lively?"

"Only on days that end in 'Y'." David replied peevishly. His shoulders had slumped so low that they were practically hitting the floor, and his face was steadily turning more and more melancholy as Gullin continued to ramble. There just seemed to be no end to the tiny boar's "praises" for his master! As soon as he finished with one story that illustrated David's "enthusiasm" for the female form, he immediately moved into another one that was even worse than before! Quite frankly, David thought it was a wonder that Amaya hadn't started beating him to a bloody and twitching pulp by now.
"And then...! There was this one time at a coed Hot Spring where David's trunks had accidentally slipped off and he stood up in the water to go get a towel! Boy, were those girls certainly impressed by what they saw! They just kept on pointing and screaming for more until they-!"
"ALL RIGHT! That's it!" David suddenly exclaimed with an icy glare thrown towards the fiery boar. It seemed that last story had been the final straw and David could endure no more. His sanity and his precious reputation were just about ruined! He knew it! "Everyone BEGONE!" he shouted again while lifting an indignant and trembling finger. He was so red in the face, both from embarrassment and frustration, that he slightly resembled a tomato more than a person at that point.
After that, each of the Rune Beast spirits started to vanish with a little puff of grey smoke from all around him. The only one to show any sign of not wanting to leave was Gullin, who immediately turned around again to look at his master as if he were crazy. His snout had opened to voice a protest since he wasn't yet done with praising his wonderful master's "vigor and love of life", but it had quickly turned into a meek and wide-eyed stare when he saw that that David was glaring at him. Gullin soon disappeared along with the others shortly after that.
All in all, it was probably a good thing that David and Amaya were alone in the Duel Arena (more or less). Otherwise, he shuddered to think what other students would've been thinking had they caught sight of his little outburst. Was he talking to himself? Or worse... Was he bullying poor little Amaya?
"Now before you say anything..." David began while still holding up a finger to Amaya. It seemed that he had managed to finally regain what little now remained of his composure. And his dignity. "I am not a pervert. I just so happen to have a very healthy appreciation for women. And secondly, none of that bunk Gullin was telling you about me was true."
Or so he wanted Amaya to believe.

Blushing even more at the story, Amaya smiled sheepishly and asked, "He sure is.... enthusiastic, isn't he?" She really didn't know how to react with that barrage of information about this male she just met. All she could really do was smile and nod. Well, at least one of her duel spirit's advice came in handy, when in doubt, just smile and nod.
At his clarification, she just nodded again, since she isn't too sure what to think right now. Amaya decided to just not make any judgments right now until she has observed the male for a little while longer.

Well... This was rather awkward, now wasnt it?
That was what David was certainly thinking. Putting up with his duel spirits' collective efforts to (unintentionally) embarrass had been bad enough before, but this...standing here while dumbly staring at Amaya without anything else to say to her and defend his reputation with... was quite another matter entirely. The girl's silence might as well have been the death knell sounding for what was left of David's composure. Along with his dignity. "Crap...! She thinks I'm a pervert!" the Obelisk thought with no small amount of worry.
And while the fact that he actually was a pervert was perfectly true, it wasn't as if he wanted other people figuring that out about him! Such a thing often caused David more trouble than anything else he could think of! Especially when it came to getting a date! How the Fates must be frowning upon him now!
"So....uh...." David stammered awkwardly, his thoughts racing to find the right words that could turn this situation around. But it just seemed that the damage caused by his Rune Beasts' "openess" towards David's vices had proven to be too great. The schism that had opened between himself and Amaya (the schism that he thought was there, anyway) had grown too wide, and he could think of nothing that would make him look like anything but a lowly pervert in the pretty girl's big blue eyes.
There was only one thing to do.
Get the hell outta Dodge before something else came along to embarrass him further!
"Well...Uh... GOTTA GO, BYE!" David suddenly exclaimed to Amaya. After that, he was off and running so fast out of the Duel Arena that a trail of dust was streaming behind him in his wake. It was a wonder that he didn't run into anybody else on his way out the door! Or that Amaya's clothing had been blown off of her by the wind his passing had made.
