It wasn't often that David found himself bored at school. Or at least, it wasn't often that he was bored at school on a Saturday. Normally, he would've vastly preferred to be anywhere else and doing something completely different than what he was doing now. Which was sitting in the Arena's empty bleachers and being completely bored out of his skull. "Maybe this wasn't such a good idea, after all." the silver-haired boy muttered to himself as he watched the seconds tick by on the clock above the main door.
But unfortunately for him, strange times called for strange (and sometimes dull) measures. With the mysterious events surrounding the Tablet of the Seven Attributes at the Domino City Museum and the somewhat "macabre" history of this very island.... Well... it seemed perfectly reasonable to think that the two of them were somehow connected. How could he not think that, considering all of the strange things rumored to have happened here? That was what his "sources" had told him so far and that was also what his own rather strange experiences in the past had told him. If a mystery about Duel Monsters was afoot, then Duel Academy was likely somehow embroiled it.
The Duel Arena had seemed like the logical place for David to begin his investigation of the student body and faculty for any notable figures concerning that. Just not on a weekend, apparently.
With that in mind, David stood up from his seat and pulled the white hood of his Obelisk Blue jacket over his hair and started to descend down the steps leading to the exit. He thought about checking out some of the other places on the island that could help his investigation, but he decided against it in the end. It seemed now that he would have better luck just by going back to his room and consulting his laptop and books. And possibly the rune stones that sat in a box on his shelf. But he only used those for drastic measures...

Somehow, while looking for her dorm room, Amaya wound up in the duel arena of the school. Taking out the map in her backpack, she began to wonder how she ended up here, especially since the duel arena is in the opposite direction! Ah, since she was here anyways, might as well observe a duel. But her luck is still as horrid as ever, as there is currently no duel that is active. Shrugging slightly, she decided to dwell around the arena for a while longer before going back.
After some observations, she finally noticed that there is, in fact, another male in the area. An obelisk blue, to be exact. Ah, an obelisk blue? She is nervous already without even speaking to him. Although she is quite curious if he is waiting for someone, as if he is, she might get to observe one of the academy's elite in a duel.

David had just made it to the bottom step of the bleachers when he realized that another person had entered the Duel Arena. He looked up and saw that a female student was now standing near the main entrance, the only other student besides David who had come here for the past few hours. Not only that, but she seemed to be staring at David rather.... intensely. It was enough to make the silver-haired boy quirk an eyebrow in confusion before he realized that the girl doing the staring was actually pretty cute.
Suddenly, David wasn't feeling quite so awkward as he had been a moment ago. Now if only that damn voice (or possibly duel spirit) in the back of his head would stop nagging him about how he still had a mission to do, then he could go over there to her and do what he did best. Try to charm his way into her heart with badly-memorized Shakespeare and corny flirtations, of course!
Sigh... Damn responsibility.
So rather than giving into his romantic urges, David simply cupped a hand over his mouth and called out a "Hello?" to the Slifer girl and started making his own way towards the main entrance where she was standing. After all, it was the only way to get out of the building. "Is something the matter?" he asked her gently, noting the distressed expression that she had upon her face. Quite frankly, it was almost like she was scared of him. How absurd was that?

Amaya was a little startled that the male would actually greet her. Weren't the rumors flowing around that obelisk blues are extremely elitist and looks down on the slifer reds? Or was this some kind of random initiation type of thing? Well, he does seem nice enough, although she was still feeling a little uncomfortable since she isn't sure how to act.
Deciding that it wouldn't do any harm responding to him, she answered, "Oh... hello." At his next question, asking her if something is the matter, she blushed slightly. Is she being that obvious, or is this guy just observant. Either way, Amay just stuttered, "N-no, nothing is wrong."

Another small quirk of an eyebrow was David's first response. For some strange reason, this girl just seemed especially jittery to him and it was starting to make him curious. Was she always like that or was there something going on that was causing her distress? That and the blush on her cheeks got him thinking that it might've had something to do with him, but that was just struck him as struck him as being silly. He might've been handsome, but he didn't think he was that handsome.
Or maybe he just wasn't used to the idea of a woman possibly being attracted to him. Most of his experience with them seemed to consist of getting the snot beat out of him after trying to peep into the women's bath house. A harsh and rather brutal punishment for a boy of his age.
But then again, it never seemed to stop him from trying again. And again. And again....
"You sure?" he asked the girl, but this time with a tad more concern in his tone. She just seemed too darn skittish for him to be any other way! But even so, he decided that it was probably best if he took her word about how she was feeling. There wasn't another soul to be seen anywhere, and it seemed pretty unlikely that she was being bullied or pestered by anyone else. Nothing got him more riled than the sight of a person bullying another person. Nothing except a pretty girl in danger, that is.
Like this girl right here, for example!
After inwardly relaxing a bit and easing his hands and removing the white hood that covered his silver hair, David offered the Slifer girl a light smile and stuck out his hand to her by way of greeting. Maybe some light conversation would help ease her nerves a bit. "Well... If you say so. By the way, I'm David. David Frost. Nice to meet you. I just transferred here from Duel Academy West."

Nodding slightly, Amaya replied quietly, "Yep, I am sure. Thanks for your concern though." She still was a little bit unsure, but since he showed some concern, perhaps he is not one of those ego-manics that she has been hearing about? Just that is enough to make her feel a little bit better, but she is still a tad nervous though.
Well, since it was obvious that he was trying to get her to relax, might as well comply since he does seem to be a nice person. She returned his smile, although still a bit forced, at least she is loosening up a little. "Amaya Sagisawa, pleased to meet you as well."

Well.... This seemed to be going rather swimmingly. A little awkward perhaps, which David had to admit, but still pretty good nonetheless. Now if only he could think of something else to say that wouldn't make him sound like a total doofus to Amaya. And given the fact that the girl was still being strangely silent towards him and that David wasn't much a talker when he was the only one doing it... Well, that task was something much easier said than done. Small talk was just so horrid that way.
"Likewise, Amaya." he began after retracting the offered handshake back into one of the pockets of his Obelisk jacket. One could almost even see the perplexed anime-sweatdrop run down the back of his head. "So...Uh... What brings you here? I mean...! Other than the obvious reasons." he stammered quickly upon realizing how stupid he must've sounded. Why would any person be coming to the Duel Arena!? Either to watch a Duel or to participate in one! It was essentially the same reason why David had come here in the first place!
But sadly.... And much to the silver-haired lad's annoyance... the only person to show up in here besides himself was Amaya. And that had been after two hours of doing nothing but waiting. Yeah... Great plan, David. Come to school on a Saturday. Everyone and their mothers were just bound to show up then!
David was already heaving a mental sigh at just the thought of it. "Ah well..." he muttered in his thoughts before looking at Amaya again. "At least I found somebody today. Maybe Amaya is one of the people that I'm looking for." With that said to give him a bit of hope, David came to stand beside and Amaya and turned his gaze to the vacant Duel Arena. The Duel Stage was almost begging for a bit of fun now. "Well... Since there's no one but us in here... Would you care for a duel with me?"

A giggle escaped from Amaya when David started trying to make conversation. She is finding it somewhat humorous that someone who seems to be so confident could struggle so obviously when making small talk. However, when he questioned why she is here, she looked downwards in embarrassment and replied, "Oh... to be honest, I just got lost and wound up here."
However, she is just utterly surprised when he asked her for a duel. An Obelisk Blue against a Slifer Red, seems like it's a no contest. But, after a moment of thinking, Amaya decided that she needed to duel more in order to get better, and what better time to start than right now? Nodding nervously, she said, "Hmm... sure, I guess? I just hope that I don't bore you to death in the duel..."

David almost let out a snort when he heard Amaya's words and shook his head. "Trust me, it can't be any worse than sitting all by yourself in here for two hours. I came here thinking that I'd find the place packed, but noooo.... I forgot that this was still considered school and that today was Saturday." He let out a little huff at the end of his little (rather humorous) tirade and crossed his arms over his chest as if he were about to pout. It seemed that he was still a bit sore that he had failed to notice that particular detail. "You'd think the Duel Arena would have people in it no matter what day it was."
However, when he heard Amaya agree to his friendly challenge for a Duel, he seemed to relax a bit and the disgruntled frown on his face eased into a pleased smile. "Good to hear it. I've been looking for a good Duel ever since I came here, but I haven't had much luck finding even one yet." Naturally, he neglected to mention the fact that he was using these Duels as a way to gather strong duelists and stand against....whatever it was that had destroyed the ancient Tablet of the Seven Attributes and released whatever was held inside. He figured that would be too much for someone like Amaya to handle just yet.
So with that in mind, David opened up his Obelisk jacket and reached into a large inside pocket to withdraw his precious Duel Disk and then strapped it to his right forearm. He also turned on his heel and started making his way to the far end of the Duel Field, leaving the nearest spot for Amaya to claim. Always the gentleman, that boy was. "So what kind of a Deck do you usually run, Amaya?" David called to the girl once he had arrived at his spot. He seemed fairly eager to get started, but that was probably because of how bored he had been earlier. Anyone probably would be if they had spent two hours waiting for people to show up who never did.

She smiled a bit at his rant, it was kind of cute for a male to talk like this. But then, Amaya found herself wondering what in the world he did for 2 hours while waiting. Did he just sat there for 2 hours, or did he do something? Well, right now, she doesn't want to ask and turned her attention towards the imminent duel.
Amaya quietly nodded while following him to the duel field, and thought to herself that it's a good thing that she brought her duel disc along today. Still, she hopes that she does not disappoint him too badly. As she got into position, she took out her duel disc and loaded her deck in. After a quick shuffle, she turned to David and replied, "Oh, it's just a badly made Empty Jar deck." She then proceeded to draw her initial hand, but dropped the cards and Magical Mallet and The Shallow Grave landed on the floor face-up.
It was then that a jar appeared beside Amaya, and it said in an annoying voice, ~"Oh? Is this love at first sight? The boy was so cute that you can even hold your cards properly?"~ After that, her duel spirit just laughed maniacally while her face turned bright red from embarrassment. Glaring at her spirit as if telling it to shut its mouth, she turned back to David and said, "Sorry about that, let's begin."
Picking up her hand again, she held up the spell card, Magical Mallet. "Let's activate this first. Magical Mallet, by returning two cards from my hand to my deck, I get to draw two cards." When she drew her hand, she frowned. This hand is quite horrible, and in a last ditch effort, Amaya showed her opponent the card, Upstart Goblin. She is quite nervous now, as it all rests in this next draw. Taking a quick breath, she stated, "So, now, you gain 1000 Life Points. In exchange, I get to draw a card."
Amaya let out a soft sigh of relief as she looked at the card that she drew. Quite frankly, this was the best draw that she don't have drawn. Giving a small smile, she quietly set 1 monster and 3 cards in the m/t zone. Then, she activated a spell card, Book of Taiyou. A book then appeared on the field, and started to glow. When the glowing light disappeared, the face-down monster was flipped face-up, and that monster is, in fact, her duel spirit, Morphing Jar. The jar then started to create a vortex, draining both player's hand into it. Taking the time to explain this, she said, "Now, since Morphing Jar was flipped face-up, we discard our hands and draw 5 cards."
Looking at her new hand, Amaya was quite puzzled. These cards are almost identical to her starting hand. Shrugging slightly, she revealed yet another Magical Mallet and sent her entire hand back to the deck. "Since I sent 4 cards back, now I get to draw 4 more." Taking a look at the field, she opted to just set 2 more cards before ending her turn.

[[Note to the Audience: Each participant of this Duel is asking the opponent via MSN Instant Messenger if they are able to chain their cards to other cards.]]
There were two things that David noticed right away.
One was the fact that Amaya seemed to be getting more and more nervous as the duel was started. Although, that alone probably wasn't all that noteworthy based on what he had seen from her so far. (Gosh, she just looked so cute like that). But the second thing was that a friggin' Morphing Jar suddenly appeared floating out of thin air and then started teasing the Slifer girl! "~Oh? Is this love at first sight? The boy was so cute that you can't even hold your cards properly?"~ he heard the Duel Spirit cackle obscenely before disappearing from sight.
Needless to say.... David was more than a bit surprised. Maybe there was more to Amaya than he had at first thought. "Hey!" he called out to Amaya while pointing a shaky finger at the spot where the Morphing Jar had once hovered. "You have a Duel Spirit, too!? That's... wow....pretty impressive." he finished a bit lamely. To be honest, he was a bit at a loss for words after realizing that he had found another person with a Duel Spirit so soon after coming to Duel Academy. Maybe Amaya was one of the people he had been searching for, after all.
But then.... The duel officially began.
David couldn't help wincing when he saw Morphing Jar's creepy grin after Amaya had played the Spell, Book of Taiyou. He knew especially well what Morphing Jar's special ability was, but mainly because he had one of the infernal little creeps in his Deck as well. That and the loss of five good cards right from the get-go was no small blow to him.
But even so... He wasn't about to let something that trivial get to him now. Especially since the next five cards he had drawn were practically even better than his old hand.
"All right... Amaya. The Deck I have is the only one of its kind. And you're the first person on this island whose going to get a good look at it." he said with a somewhat fierce gleam in his eye. It seemed that the Duel was starting to fire him pretty nicely now. "And since you've filled your Spell and Trap Zone to capacity.... I activate the Spell Card, Giant Trunade."
As David set his chosen card on his Duel Disk and spoke those words, a swirl of ominous clouds had started to gather over the Duel Field. They had begun to spin and swirl, faster and faster until the eye of a tornado had formed directly over their heads. And then it descended upon the entire field as a howling vortex of ripping winds and screaming air currents.

Amaya, to be honest, was a little shocked at finding another person who actually has a duel spirit. Well, by her book, anyone who has a duel spirit can't be bad, so she decided that she could relax around him. She nodded and said, "Yeah, but... Morphing Jar is a bit of a jerk at times... I do wish that he didn't take jabs that often."
Now, the decision was back to Amaya. Would she chain and risk it, or would she just let this go. Shaking her head slightly, she decided that it's in her best interest to chain in order to get more milling power from her Morphin Jar. First, she flipped over the spell card, Book of Moon. Then, since her opponent can't chain, she chained her own spell with Desert Sunlight, and finally, she chained another Book of Moon to Desert Sunlight.
Now, the chain happens, first up is Book of Moon. A book appeared on the field as she did, causing the area to dim. When light sheds back to the area, Morphing Jar is now face-down. Next up is the resolution of Desert Sunlight. A scorching sun then appeared on the field, causing her monster to be switched to face-up defense position. But as that happened, Morphing Jar started draining the hands again, making Amaya discard Needle Worm and Magical Stone Excavation, but that allows her to draw another hand. After that, another book activates, causing Morphing Jar to go back to face-down. Finally, the gust of winds blew the remaining two cards in the M/T zone back to her hand. Smiling, she said quietly to herself, "That chain is almost like a light show."

Wait... What the crap just happened?
Did Amaya somehow manage to activate the effect of Morphing Jar a second time in the span of a minute? After checking his own Graveyard and then Amaya's just to see if his eyes were messing with him, he came to the conclusion that she had indeed done just that. Not only that, but he now had ten of his own cards resting in peace in his Graveyard on the second turn of the Duel.
'Poorly made Empty Jar Deck', my ass!
"Not bad, Amaya." David complemented his opponent with a cool and calculating smile. "Although, I think you were underestimating yourself before." He glanced at his third new hand of the Duel and smiled just a bit wider. "But now I think it's time that I turn the tables on you. And to show you what exactly my Deck is made of." As he spoke, there was a definite change in the way he carried himself. His shoulders seemed a little broader than before, his gaze just a little more confident and cool. And he became brimming with a quiet kind of pride.
"I summon one of the legendary monsters of Norse Mythology. Rune Beast - Jormungandr!"
As soon as David placed his card on his Duel Disk, the very ground beneath the Duel Field started to tremble and quake. A column of water suddenly arose out of nowhere from a spot on David's field, twisting and writhing like a giant snake before it finally vanished into a fine mist and revealing what was hidden inside.
A large sea serpent with green scales, small spikes lining its spine, and a tail tipped with a set of three bony blades now sat on David's side of the field. It was easily twice as tall as David and looked at Amaya with a ferocious gleam in its cold and reptilian eyes. However, the biggest surprise came with it opened its jaws and spoke to David. "It's about time, you know. I was starting to feel cramped in that tiny Deck Box of your's." The serpent, named Jormungandr based on what David had earlier said, then turned its attention back to Amaya and spoke again with a show of gleaming fangs. "So you are his first opponent on this island. I hope that you are more formidable than the last wretches we fought before."
"Jormungandr. Be polite. This duel is supposed to be fun." David said a bit sternly to the sea serpent. It looked odd because it seemed that David wouldn't even make a light snack for Jormungandr's belly!
The only response Jormungandr gave to David was an indifferent and rumbling growl as he settled back and seemed to relax at his spot. Or maybe he was rearing back to strike....
"And before doing anything else.... I'll set my remaining four cards in my Spell and Trap Zone. My hand is safely empty now." It seemed now that David had a plan now. A plan that would turn Amaya's own milling cards against her for the moment! "Jormungandr!" David called out to his monster with a wave of his hand. "Attack that face-down Morphing Jar!"
Jormungandr acted swiftly and without mercy. With a strike that seemed faster than lightning, the huge sea serpent lashed forward at Amaya's face-down monster sunk his fangs deep into its flank just as it had flipped up to reveal the Morphing Jar underneath it. And when it was flipped up..... That meant that both players had to discard their hands and draw five more cards. But since David's hand was empty.... Well, you know.
Poor Morphing Jar was sent screaming the Graveyard after that.
"It's your turn, Amaya."

Amaya looked at the monster that David had summoned, and just stared in awe uttering, "Wow, that's your duel spirit? So cute..." But, as her hand went to the graveyard, a silhouette of a hooded figure appeared behind her. After saying thank you to the silhouette, she turned back to her opponent and said, "Now, since Night Assailant was sent directly from my hand to my Graveyard, its effect activates. I get to get a Flip Effect monster from my graveyard and put it in my hand, and I choose..." The hooded figure then disappeared, and in its place, Needle Worm. "Yep, my worm is back to my hand."
Now, Amaya drew her next card, wondering what she should do now that she had practically milled through half her deck. Holding out the Shallow Grave card that she had put back to her deck with Magical Mallet, she said, "Now, The Shallow Grave. We both get a monster from our graves in face-down defense position." Taking out Morphing Jar from her graveyard, she set it back on the field, while David opted to set his Rune Beast - Fenrir, whatever that is.
As both face-down monsters appeared, she looked back to her hand. Now what should she do? Thinking about it for a moment, Amaya decided to activate the spell card, Magical Stone Excavation. "Now, by discarding Needle Worm and Upstart Goblin, I can add a Spell Card from my grave to my hand. And I choose the Heavy Storm that was just discarded from my hand." That attempt, however, was met with Dark Bribe. Sighing as she drew her card, she smiled again when she saw what she drew.
She held up the card she just drew, and it's A Feather of the Phoenix. Amaya then explained how the card works. "First, I have to discard one card, so I discard another Needle Worm. Then I can select 1 card in my Graveyard and put it on top of my deck, and I choose Heavy Storm again." This time, she was successful, and decided to set another m/t to the field before activating another Book of Taiyou from her hand. The same lighting effect activates again, as Morphing Jar reared its face onto the field. Again, both players discard their hands and draw 5.
Amaya then activated Heavy Storm, just to be blocked by another Dark Bribe. This time though, she doesn't mind too much as she does have one m/t set on the field. Finally, she activate Book of Moon on her Morphing Jar, turning it into face-down defense position again. After setting 2 more cards on the field in the M/T zone, she sent another monster. Then, finally, she activate the last card in her hand, another The Shallow Grave. She opted to get a Needle Worm while her opponent got a Morphing Jar. "And after that lengthy turn, I will end."

Once again, David was left blinking in surprise after Amaya's turn. She had managed to mill through about half of his Deck within only a few turns, and he was starting to wonder if he was going to suffer a Deck-Out at her hands. But that only meant that he was going to have to up the pressure even more on her now. And thankfully, he had managed to save the few face-down cards in his Spell and Trap Zone from that Heavy Storm she had almost played. What he had there would hopefully be enough to get him out of this bind.
"All right.... " David began tentatively as he selected one card from his hand as a cost. A card called Rune Beast - Munin. "I activate my face-down Raigeki Break to destroy one of your three face-downs in your back row. I select the one on the right!" he finished with another dramatic sweep of his arm, just as the face-down Raigeki Break flipped up and loosed a lightning bolt that scorched the card he had selected. It was only a Reckless Greed.
"Not one of the cards I was hoping to get, but I'll take it." he thought determinately. A quick glance at his hand revealed another option that might work. "Now I activate Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy your other face-down card. I choose the one on the left!"
A second card materialized on David's field, but this time it spewed out a rapidly-spinning tornado that was headed straight for the card on Amaya's field that he had chosen.
