No sound. No response. The girl gazed off to the exit of the grounds once more. Closed off to the world, how everything mostly was. Irony.
"It is not my intention to injure you in any way Xenneth. I find relief that if I require any aid, that I may go to you for assistance." Still faced away to the distance. The feminine tone carried only between themselves. Eyes of jade returned to the boy's attention. The fair face retained its solemn immobile appearance. "You have my gratitude."

“O-oh…yo-you‘re welcome!”
Xenneth had tossed his head forward as he had given a gracious nod. Not only once, but twice as he seemed to be happy enough to have the young woman’s “gratitude,” no matter how empty it seemed with her tough expression. “No questions asked, promise!” he had assured. His right hand had been raised as he waved it once giving a solemn promise just as good as his word. He was so innocent, he did not even realize that some promises given so early sealed the most unusual of fates, but somehow, he felt it would be okay.
His trust was tossed out as easily as trash. It would not be surprising if that was how it would be treated.
His eyes had closed just as he assured the young woman. He dropped his chin only a little from the awkward silence he had given. He was not sure of how to hold a conversation with someone, including one of the opposite sex, he felt trapped at this point. Eventually, he had let his eyes wander going to the most irrelevant things…or at least that’s what others would think sometime. Xenneth on the other hand had appreciated the day. With class over sooner for himself as his duties were excused, he had found the time to appreciate the presence of the young woman as well as the scenery. Even if it seemed like they lacked any natural traits that would have them relate just like other friends at school, he at least made some effort.
“U-umm…the campus…” he had said hesitantly, “…I-it‘s quite lovely, even more than I saw from the brochures.”
He had fallen silent with a smile as he turned his attention to the courtyard. Xenneth had shown his fondness of the place, or what little of it, based on his recent arrival. He had to admit, beyond all the faults he had seen because of his tentative attitude, he could only appreciate nature itself seeing it was something comforting. The sight of the foliage, the gentle massaging winds, and the sparkling sea was all an art that he could truly appreciate in his opinion.

{.//I will presume that Leon is continuing to exclude himself from this thread. If I am mistaken Leon, message me to remove the post.} Silence existed whereas the agreement had been prepared. The teenaged lady inclined her head, common Japanese formality. Letting the tranquility settle, the eyes of jaded stone shifted yet again. Overseeing glances of the caliber equivalent of a hawk. To a point of conversation starting itself, the lady seemed to be looking for a lost object. No more. “Is it? I never looked at brochures for Duel Academy,” the tone of her voice in the same pitch as last. Truth here by reason if truth still lives.

“R-really?”
Xenneth was surprised by the response. Being as careful as he was, he naturally thought everyone had looked towards their paths and studied them like himself. Naturally afraid of failure, he gazed only looking for success as he thought blindness was some kind of weakness. He studied brochures with utter paranoia rather to decide whether or not he should come to this place, and here was someone who he could see as not only talented by the judge of her uniform, but carefree based on the assumption that she came to Duel Academy out of free choice. Was there a thought behind life when she had chosen to do so?
“I-if you don‘t mind me asking…” he had spoke up, curiosity overruling his fear, “…how did you learn about Duel Academy, and out of all other academies, why come here?”
There were other Duel Academies at that: there were the other branches of Duel Academy other than this one, and there were also rival Academies such as North Academy that was near the far chills of the polar caps. It was not someone’s idea of a cozy getaway, he could see that from all the ice upon hearing about the place, but some people made some choices based on their reasons and their reasons alone that they would bring up. The young woman’s interested Xenneth far more seeing that he was curious to know her passions at that moment for some unknown reason.

"My parents have an affinity for dueling. This Academy is the most illustrious therefore my parents opted to send me here rather than elsewhere." No hesitation. Eyes started to droop as the observations continued. Other figures- they appeared now. Bells yet to toll and those that didn’t exist previously spontaneously emerged to her sight.
Unwavering in stone disposition, the voice of the girl continued into a somewhat different matter. ”Have you been aware of others in close proximity that may possibly overhear our conversation?” Silence is golden but partial silence conversely fickle.

Once again, Leon of course lacked the timing to do what he needed to do, what he'd been sent here to do. After careful observation of the girl talking to Xenneth, Leon stood up and slowly made his way over to them through the students. Hopefully they would clear out in time for what he needed to do, as it was quite uncomfortable that others would be around in the middle of this. As soon as he reached the girl, he nodded to Xenneth again, then pointedly faced the girl.
"You are Mesmere? I was sent here by my teacher to find you." He hated doing this in front of other people. These errands that Vahn sent him on, supposedly furthering his training. Mysterious ways his ass. Tilting his head, knowing that this was the girl, he continued. "Vahn Gale sent me here to test you in a duel." He raised one arm out from under his robe, a deck in his hand.

“I-I see…!
Well…really, he did not. Where Xenneth did not grasp the concept of dueling as important to him, it seemed that others had their own reasons. He did not understand them, any of them, and himself especially since he was the main one here. It was a school for dueling, something that he was not too fond of. Go to school and become a doctor was a simple task, but pressure had caused him to come here with a nod from the officials of the corporation that had funded the Academy themselves. They saw “talent,” something Xenneth thought was a ploy to increase their student enrollment, and he was the sucker that placed his hand on the scholarship money as well.
Why was he here? It was still beyond him. Letting his head drop as he drifted into silence after hearing the young woman speak, he felt lesser than her, more so than he would usually for any other being that was within a five foot radius of him. He could stand with someone, and just by being at their side, he could measure their very aura to know how great they were. Usually, they were naturally accomplished, and if they were down, Xenneth would pick them up with his usual cheerleading routine. It was ironic; toss all the happiness around he wanted to for people, but he never found the cheers that would pick up his very own spirit.
“O-others?”
Xenneth had whispered lowly while picking up his head looking to the young woman. She seemed so aware when he was not, a perfect example of her vigilance while he himself was just paranoid. Maybe then again, she was the same seeing he did not have any luck sensing anyone or did he think anyone would ease drop on him. Turning his shoulder slightly feeling some sort of chill run down his spine as if to yell that a stranger approached, he turned his attention to the familiar form as his eyes cast on Leon who nodded his head, and Xenneth gasped slightly realizing that she had been right.
He had no idea.
“Mes…Mesmere…?”
A name, one that was unique to his tongue to say for once as he spoke it himself. His head turned going from Leon who had made his sudden approach and towards the young woman that had thus sat by his side who he held a conversation with moments ago. His eyes traveled to her face as he matched the name to her features. He was not sure what the name meant, but he knew that it sounded so different that he had taken a liking to it. He did not get to see such interesting strangers lately. However, turning his attention to Leon and his eyes slightly narrowing in a puzzled way, he had thought of the name, clueless not knowing who it was, it did not matter. What mattered most was that the fact a challenged was posed.
“A-a duel?” he had repeated turning to Mesmere curiously as if he was expecting a reply, his signal to step aside seeing he had the time to observe how duels were carried out on this island. Even if it was a scary thought to witness monsters standing tall, opposite to his idea of dueling on a table top, he had felt a bit excited at the same time. He did not know, but that was just the hidden secret to him for now.

A name. It attained little attention from the obelisk only to crumble her interest afterward. No room for answers only demands. Constant burden. A mere glance towards the blonde’s course was earned. Nothing more.
“I find minuscule point in this confrontation. What do I gain as reimbursement for my troubles to accept and face the result of such a decision?” An assessment with or without ratings were as hollow as reason itself.

Leon sighed internally. He knew it wouldn't be as easy as Vahn said it would be. Rolling his eyes, he simply folded his arms. Tilting his head, he spoke again, much less formally as before. "That's for Vahn to decide. I'm only doing what he ordered me to come do. It would make my life much easier if you and I walked over to the stone table..." He pointed towards the left, "There, and dueled. No duel discs, just simple cards." He waited for her answer quietly after that, just watching. What did Vahn have in store for this girl if she accepted?

“I lack an understanding as to why I should agree. I am not under orders such as you and thus I require reimbursement for my troubles.” Cold. Words that made glaciers frost over another coat. Steadfast. No motions but a meager glance to create eye contact.
A fair colored arm slumped to the girl’s side, the hand accessing the holster attached to a belt. Draw by chance. Emerald shine of the obelisk’s eyes took note of the card attained as she held it between herself and the confronting male. “Nevertheless, I clearly cannot simply take your words to heart. When you have formulated a way valid to recompense for my troubles, I will accept your challenge. Most likely, it is better to locate another obelisk more so fascinated in your quandary.” Mockery equivalent to deceit.

Leon just sighed and shook his head slowly, chuckling. "If there was another obelisk that had gotten Gale's attention, like you have, then I would be there, not here." He just shrugged. If she didn't want to duel, then that was fine by him. He suspected that Vahn wanted to make her his student as well as Leon, and while he didn't mind that much, if she didn't become Gale's student, that meant more training for him, which he wanted.
"Well, as there is no way for a simple Slifer Student like me to 'reinburse' you, I suppose I'll have to be on my way." He simply smiled and reached up to stroke at the strange star pendant at his neck, which only known to him was his Shadow Charm. He turned and left, the crystalline star making a small tinkling noise as he spun it in his fingers. He had to go report to Vahn about this change of plans. He whistled as he walked away, hands deep in his outer coat's pockets.

The conversation was short, and business passed. Xenneth had looked between the two as they spoke only looking to Mesmere with a more ounce of respect than before. It seemed like she was not the kind of duelists around that would run around flaunting her power like some he knew, and by some, it would be any Obelisk who laughed at the game as if it was serious or held some status. He knew that was common in a league of Pro Duelists which made it seem like “wrestling” in some way, but these were only peers; he did not look forward to seeing that type of unnecessary aggression.
With Mesmere declining in her usual logical reasoning, he had turned his attention to Leon, back and forth between the two watching as if two adults were speaking beyond each other, beyond that of a child’s understanding. Finally, Leon turning and stroking at the strange instrument under his neck, Xenneth had watched as he began to depart at first slightly in awe about the strange instrument seeing not many males wore some instrument near their neck like a chocker, he had snapped out of it as he smiled weakly and watched him depart.
He had not even bid him a farewell to show that he at least existed. Xenneth would have been disappointed, but who was he to say that he was not exactly the “idea” person to be around. It was Leon after all who had taught him to be careful around certain color coated duelists that used the “ranks” as symbols of character which was beyond him.
“Oh!” Xenneth had said looking back to Mesmere with his hands behind his back shyly, “…umm…y-you could have dueled him.” Xenneth had said, “…so, why didn‘t you? Don‘t you enjoy dueling?” he had asked curiously.
Who was he to talk? He himself could not find his thrill in dueling anymore. He had once shared the game between himself and a friendly, but that thrill was long lost with that very life. It was like a bad memory whenever he would draw a card, and anxiety would take over whenever he would try to play the game continuously. Eventually, it lead to his lost, not that he was strong to begin with.
Still, even if so, there were things he wanted to know about the mysterious Mesmere, more so after that confrontation. If she was such a talent duelist, then why was her aura so mysterious, and what made her different than the other Obelisk Blue students? It was beyond him as of now, but with his interest increasing so suddenly, unknowingly, he wanted to find the answers. [/blockquote]

“What would have been the point?” her tone steady but distinctly in a lower volume. Breaking her posture, she fell backward. Crash into the wall intentionally. Emerald gems hid from the world. Loss of further reactions.
“More of a nuisance than anything else. The game is for children. I find little satisfaction in verifying myself competent at such an activity.” Answers produce more distance as the moon reaches for the sun.

“Oh, O-okay…”
It seemed pushing the question was not smart. Watching as Leon distanced himself from them he felt as if he had missed something, something else that Leon had did not mention to him on the dock. Dueling here was not exactly as fun as one would think. It seemed like dueling was like true sports most of the time; at first a simple game that anyone played without rules, restraint or limits, but for laughter and fun. It was only when it was under many eyes that restrained the game had it become to feel like it was some sort of serious game that brought in other bitter emotions.
The world could be so cruel sometimes; it turned the most simplest things into complications. A minor idea became profit and unforgiving tasks to add upon it.
The tension made Xenneth feel uneasy seeing in his heart of hearts, he felt no major opinion towards dueling anymore. At first, it seemed like a fun game, and later, it seemed like something that was a considerable strain upon the hearts of children, and now, it seemed like it was nothing more than child’s play. Perhaps he did make the wrong choice in coming to Duel Academy after all, but it was too late, and he would only be going back on his resolve to become an individual far from the watchful eyes of his guardian.
He would not be dependant, never again.
“”Your name… Xenneth had said lowly, “…he said…it was Mesmere, y-yes?” he asked uneasily, an obvious question that was in his throat was obviously behind the simple one already asked. With his eyes turned towards the young woman and his heart honestly making the utmost effort to come to a conclusion upon this individual. He did not understand her, but he knew people, and no one was without their own needs and desires. Some people were as oblivious by fear to go to one of the main taboos where Xenneth dared to go every time…
“If you don‘t mind me asking,” he spoke solemnly, “If not dueling, what does make you happy? ”
He always was one to ask personally. It did not seem odd to him, but if anything, one of the most smartest things to do. People were not very open, especially with strangers, and Xenneth was no fool to know that he was not an exception to his rule. As always, the young purple haired child had nothing to lose, and he always was in everyone’s best interest, even if it was someone who he knew he had all the interest in, but little hope of gaining some sort of acquaintanceship without friction to burn his little heart. “That is the name I was given, correct.” Clear and unfazed. Processing the following inquiry, the obelisk pushed off the wall once again. The glazed green eyes overshadowed the boy’s face. Steady. “You are asking many questions Xenneth.” There the girl slid a finger down the side of the boy’s face. Her face was remained solid but her tone faintly lightened. “Perhaps you are coming on to me?”
