It was an evening with no sun or moon. Classes were over. Silence flooded the scenery outside. Everyone was indoors now that the naturally occurring light was not present.
Those everyone didn't include Mesmere who now wandered the forest in a bewildered fashion.
It wasn't fit for a noble to be in a state of lose as most would know, but there was little helping the situation. The female in her blue blazer uniform threw herself, back first, against an oak tree that had lived a good many lifetimes past the one that had hit it. Her health was fine, not even heavy breathing could be heard from her direction.
"What a day..." the maiden said with a clear tone of either depression or tiredness. Eyes of ivory green had traced their way to the misty clouds that hid among the leaved roof between them. How long she'd stay there none would know.

Vahn took a deep breath as he put down yet another empty sake tray on the ground next to him. This is Vahn spent most of his evenings, he was either out wandering around the island or sitting in the stillness of the landscape. The small clearing where Vahn sat was just up ahead from where the Obelisk girl was resting. Tonight was disappointing. Usually the sky here was bright with the moon and the stars, however tonight it was marred. There was barely any light from above and the forest was a lot darker today because of it.
Most days seemed long for Vahn, this one especially. Half of the day was spent in training with his pupil Leon and the rest was spent doing work for the Academy. The first days of classes always seemed to be the most busy and Vahn rarely found the time to do much of his work, frequently dumping it all on the Headmistress. Vahn was barely an Assistant Headmaster anyway. Rarely in his office, rarely interacting with the students, and rarely even attending any of the Academy's events. Though he had no real ambitions, Vahn's interest extended way past Academy Island. This place though, this island where duelists gathered, was simply a perfect place to dwell for now.
After refilling his sake tray, Vahn looked up into the sky again, though it had not changed. It was still dark.

Darkness. It was descending. Light. It was fading. Before the girl was nothingness from all her solid eyes could see. She was running out of time but yet stood in the same spot with an impartial face upon her features. Statuesque in a pose, her wandering gem of eyes flowed with the ever changing haze.
But there was no doubt that morning would come.
As the time swept by with the winds of the skies, the obelisk would regain mobility. Energy from her fragile arms pushed the light weighted body off the old oak, producing only a small vibration of sound to crease the air with the friction of the bark against her skin. The autumn leaves proved it futile to slip away from the forest undetected by nearby life forms as the teenager learned from only a few steps deeper into the forest.
Rustle, rustle. The more movement made the more sound produced. Nature was turning against her stealth skills. Disruption. The less made the better.

Above all else Vahn sought tranquility both in himself and the area around him. It was no surprise that he could sense the movement of another person almost as soon as it started. The rustling of footsteps grew louder with each second and seemed to echo around the entire forest, somewhat ruining its naturally peaceful feel. Vahn spent every evening in a different place on the island and he very rarely ran into anyone else, if ever. Anti social and somewhat judgmental, Vahn wasn't much for conversation. The footsteps were now close enough so that if it was a person, they would probably be able to hear Vahn if he projected his voice. If for nothing else, it was for curiosities sake.
"Wandering the forest at this time of the night? Show yourself!"
Provided it was indeed another person and not a deer or other animal, there was no way they wouldn't have heard him. Even if they heard however, that didn't mean they would comply. Either way Vahn remained seated in plain view in the center of the small clearing.

A delicate gasp could be heard in the area before silence befell once again. The voice that called out was sudden at best and would obviously frighten any child. The girl gazed into the darkened maze to no avail with her ivory shaded eyes. Her placid hands had hid her behind another tree of old age as the night settled again.
But by then, Mesmere would have gotten the chance to reveal her location to whoever it was. Then again the place had lacked light. In response, instead of verbally calling out, she resumed a pose of picturesque posture as before. It was impossible to comply with commands when there was no one to comply to.

Vahn was not the type of person to pursuit something, especially if he wasn't sure if there was anything there in the first place. As he stood to begin his walk back however, the dark clouds which obscured the moon seemed to have decided to move on. The now visible half moon glared down on the forest illuminating it with its pale light. It wasn't much, but it was enough to make both Vahn and the clearing in which he stood visible.
After admiring the moon for a moment Vahn turned his attention into the brush of the forest and the now barely visible figure just a short distance away. There was no doubt it was a person, though that brought up the question of why they wouldn't call back. Perhaps it was someone like Vahn who gained little from the company of others. Either way there was no point in ignoring it now. Vahn headed into the forest, directly toward the figure.
"So there was someone here after all and at this hour, how unusual."
Vahn stopped at a point where only a few yards separated the two. Now he could make out that the person was a girl and was wearing a blue blazer, the color of the dorm Vahn oversaw. Sort of ironic for someone called the Red Dragon.

A voice echoed further in the woods. The same voice as before no doubt. The figure of the female jerked away from the tree after hearing the voice once more and seeing the moon awaken from slumber. There she stood, the rays of light revealing herself to the still mystery figure. The ivory eyes transitioned to an emerald gleam as the forest began to illuminate itself, the gems moving around frantically in a confined space.
To the left shadowed a figure now. Clearly this one held a larger build than herself. No recognition. The girl kept to feminine ways though the body kept its ground. The right hand took rest on at the center of her chest that still held the cloth of her blazer as a thin barrier between the skin. The green stones narrowed in appearance but her docile feature held fast. Interaction was inevitable.

There was a strange sense of tension in the air between the two. This person obviously like wasn't any of the other students or even teachers around the island. They all jumped at the chance of running into someone else, something even annoyingly so. Here thing seemed like quite the opposite. Vahn himself didn't always prefer company, however it would be rude not to say anything at this point and so he took several more steps forward. He was no longer a shadow in the distance. The light seeping through the canopy now revealed him. Everything from the cape that covered his body to his cold expression on his face could now be seen.
"The students here don't usually stray so far into this forest, especially in a shrouded night such as this one."
Vahn was now talking directly to her, his stern yet calm eyes looking directly at her. By the looks of her she wasn't just some other student, but Vahn had been mistaken in the past.

The body refused to move away from the spot the feet were planted at. The expansion of light would only increase at this point. The teenager's emerald eyes trailed the details of the visible man before her with no inclination of departure or the inverse. Crisp leaves crumbling against the weight of humans could be heard humming through the now lesser extent of darkened woods. Now words, echoing between the two present. Silence filled the void until the murmur of a feminine voice merged with it.
"I lost my way from the shore. Not accustom to these forests or dim nights good sir." Eyes of stoned complexion faded to the side back towards the receding shadow. Breathing remained steady. Stance unwavering. Night was no longer shrouded. Light was no longer gone

Getting lost from the shore and wandering this deep into the forest? It seemed very unusual but what did it really matter? In any case if she actually was lost it defiantly wouldn't be in Vahn's interests to leave her in such a state, especially as both the Assistant Headmaster and the adviser for the dorm she was in.
"You can dispense with the formalities. My name is Vahn Gale, I work here on the island."
As Vahn introduced himself he concluded it would serve no purpose in divulging the specifics of what he actually did. Most of the students usually got on edge when they knew they were around Vahn or his would be boss, the Headmistress. That being said though, not a lot of people actually knew about Vahn of his position. Not surprising since he spent most of his time outside, away from the actual school.
"I was just beginning to head back. Since you've lost your way you are welcome to join me, if you wish."

Frozen. A statue would appear to be more motile than the obelisk girl for the moment of dialogue exchanged. Two glimmering jewels remained directly upon the man calling himself Vahn. Trust. It was required.
Animation was regained but most slightly. Her head slanted downward but the gems remained upon the mystery one. Proper posture returned to her, defenses receding such as the darkness before. Still no words. The silence had waited. Doubt.

The girl sure didn't enjoy communicating, that much was for certain. Anyone else would have probably gotten annoying or unnerved by her lack of speech and even movement, but Vahn could relate somewhat. Still, if she wasn't even going to show the slightest interest in communicating, then it would be pointless for Vahn to stick around.
"Conserving your words? That's fine, if anything it is what I expected from students who belong to my dorm."
Vahn raised his a hand in order to point out a direction, pushing his cape past his right shoulder. Underneath it he was wearing his own Obelisk Blue blazer, which was of course slightly different from that of the students'.
"If you wish to go back alone that is fine. This way will lead you back to the shore and from there you should be able to make your way back with ease."

“Less trouble to merely follow you.” Volume of the female’s voice rose from the murmur from before. Now it was clearly audible to life in the vicinity. Stance stayed. Eyes lingered.
Into the night. That was the direction was pointing to. There was thought. Position untouched, the words continued to follow. No change in pitch. “Conversely, if you desire peace then I shall heed your word.” Redefine wish.

"I have no problems with you trailing along with me."
There was definitely something about this girl that made even Vahn somewhat uneasy. He had traveled the world over several times and had met and seen many different people. People with little to say come around very often, but there was something different behind her silence and short phrases. She had an aura to her that Vahn had never come across before. It was evident even from her speech, as limited as it way.
"You have a name?"
Vahn asked as he started walking slowly in the direction he pointed to earlier, assuming she would follow.

The obelisk girl bowed her head slightly forward before raising it back to standard position. Oriental style to set the location, such as the moon fits the night. The void of stillness had merged with the unsettling atmosphere. Leaves unordered in the trees left hints of shade for the two. It was placed into use, the once still girl regaining basic motor functions to ease behind the escort with almost no sound besides the lightened rustle of before.
Not too far. Not too close. An escort but still a stranger. That was until the question of her name appeared. No hesitation. Voice clear and bold yet lacked a strong volume. "Yes. Mesmere." Inaccuracy was a strange thing.
