Welcome to the first card of the day. I'll start putting these up once in a while when I get bored, so expect a lot more.
Anyway lets start off interesting with the card designed for Yugioh's 10th Anniversary, hand drawn and signed by the creator himself.
yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Obelisk_the_Tormentor_%28Effect_Monster%29
Well its a god card so that has to count for something, right? Though its a legal version so it has been severely crippled in comparison to the anime, of course.
Well lets take a look shall we. Obelisk is a level 10 monster that requires 3 tributes. This thing won't be used for synchro anytime soon (not that you would want to) and its summoning requirement doesn't exactly make it very reliable. Needless to say this card isn't very splashable and requires something of its own deck.
Obelisk is the only monster of its kind, being of the DIVINE attribute and [Divine-Beast] type. Being your own unique type kind of sucks though, since no support exists for it.
Next lets take a look at Obelisk's abilities. Aside from the 3 tributes, up until the second to last line the effects are quite impressive. Since its summon cant be negated and stops the activation of monster effects, spell and trap cards you can pretty much be assured that you can bring this guy out with no fear. Once on the field Obelisk can't be targeted by card effects which is also pretty neat. With 4000 attack points, this card is hard to bring down if your deck isnt prepared for it, though most are. Since non target effects still work, even a simple fissure can take this 'mighty' god card out.
Finally the last two effects. Obelisk can indeed be special summoned from anywhere, however at the turns end it goes straight to the graveyard just like in the show. This isn't exactly a MAJOR let down by itself, but combination with the next effect it kind of is.
Obelisk's final effect. Is it infinite attack? The dealing of 4000 damage? Is it anything like the show? Not really...well sort of. By tributing two monsters it destroys all of your opponents monsters. This effect is just okay, I liked it better when it destroyed all monsters and did 4000 points of damage to your opponent. What really ruins it is the fact that Obelisk cant attack on the same turn as using this effect. Any plans anyone had to quickly special summon this card, clear the field and attack for 4000 went completely down the drain, but at least the art is cool, right?
As an interesting side note, if you tribute summon this card using Hardened Armed Dragon, Obelisk essentially becomes invincible and if only able to be destroyed by battle. There's a scary thought.
