It was a clear day in the city of Domino as the Obelisk student, Matt Hirama, as taking his daily jog through the city. Normally he would take this job around the academy island, but since the semester hadn't started yet, he felt he could use some scenery besides red, yellow, and blue. Even he got tired of seeing those uniforms day in and day out. At least the city had a myriad of different colors and sights, not counting the endless number of Kaiba Corp and Duel Monster adds everywhere. That, and the city park didn't constantly have giant monsters beating the crap out of each other.
At the moment, Matt was taking a small break in the aforementioned park, sitting on a bench sipping on a bottle of Gatorade. Besides him on the bench laid his duel disk and deck, even though he had never intended to use it while out today. You could never know who, when, or where you would run into a duel, so it was best to be prepared at all times. This went double for Matt because he was a student at Duel Academy, which only meant he had more of a reputation to live up to. After all, the students at the academy were said to be the best of the best in the next generation of dueling.
"Well, I guess a few more minutes wouldn't hurt." Matt said to himself after checking his pulse. Place his right foot on his left knee, Matt laid back and stared into the sky, imagining various shapes in the clouds far above him.

The serenity of the day was beautiful. The birds chirping, the air overhead crystal clear. The skies were blue. The sun was beaming. There wasn't a chill anywhere for a September day. But all of that was about to change.
NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEROW!
It could be sworn that a sonic hedgehog boom went off as the figure zipped past. She was on roller-blades and they were rather noisy, completely bombing a hole in the serenity of the day and saying 'HELLO JAPAN!!!!!!' to everything around it. Now there was evidence of a red-haired flat-chested girl. The girl stopped suddenly, using the brakes to do an awesome move of awesome so that she could merely start off all over again down the path. But then she realized that she was god damn tired!
She was in her white shirt and was wearing a pair of black shorts, with her normal belt of eight deck boxes around her waist. On her back was latched her duel disc. At her side was a bottle of water.
The girl came blading up and looked at the boy sitting on the bench. "Yo... mind if I... use this... thanks." She proclaimed to him in panting huffs. She flopped onto the bench beside him with a loud groan and then took a deep drink, before she looked down at her watch.
"Two minutes 45 seconds. NICE." She said with a wide grin.

Matt's plan of spending more time peacefully staring into space was kindly interrupted by someone flying past him on roller blades. After he retracted his legs as to not trip the lunatic going so fast, Matt turned his head to examine the... young woman. It only took a few moments for Matt's male brain to deduct that the skater was indeed female, despite the lacking of an impressive bosom. Matt raised an eyebrow as the female came rolling back down the sidewalk path, only to stop right in front of him and sit down.
"Why hello there, Lacking Lady." Matt said jokingly. It was far too late to stop himself before he realized the obvious impact of the words he spoke. He could have face palmed, apologize, or anything else to rectify it, but the exercise had put him in a good mood. In his mind, he figured the girl would take it in good humor as well... hopefully. He took a drink from his gatorade after he spoke, quenching the dry throat that came with jogging for some several hours straight.

"What the hell is that supposed to mean?" Airi's demeanor had changed within an instant with a side-glance and a terrible glare. However the glare didn't really look all that menacing. After all she was just a tiny little thing. She was normally bubbly and over the top. Thus, she looked to be... well... almost like an imp. She glowered through her sweaty bangs and then took a drink, her eyes narrowed.
"You're a pervert! Aren't you!" Airi exclaimed as she rounded upon Matt, her hands on her hips as she stood up from her bench seat. The thirteen year old bent to his eye level and glowered. "What, big boobs are your goal or something? What're you doing looking there on a girl you don't know anyway! Perv!" She pouted.

Matt would have chuckled if he hadn't realized he had ticked the young female off. Still, the passive look on his face remained the same as before as he looked up at the Airi after she had spoken. Yup, she was mad. Still, it didn't really phase Matt that much. The look on her face was more comical than anything, compared to her stature and, apparently, age. Matt raised an eyebrow as he looked her in the eyes, not knowing whether or not to take her seriously. It was only a joke after all.
"Geez, lighten up. It was a joke." Matt said after she finished speaking again. He finished his Gatorade in a few more gulps and tossed the plastic bottle in a nearby recycle bin. After a few moments, Matt too lifted himself from the bench, putting his duel disk and deck back on his belt loop. Airi's anger was dampening the mood of the day, and Matt didn't want the said time to end badly. Yet, as much as he wanted to leave, his own weariness made him sit back down again. Jogging through a city for several hours without stopping could take it out of someone, even if they were used to jogging.

Airi was infuriated when the boy started to walk away. Freakin' coward! But Airi couldn't be dampened by this... secretly in her mind, this boy was amusing... in some dark recess of her mind she thought this. She gazed at the boy critically and then sat down.
"You make jokes like that with people you know." She said scoldingly. But then she held out her hand. "You can call me Airi. What's your name?" Airi asked... she seemed to be lightening up a bit but she really couldn't be phased to not show her slight annoyance. Lacking... FEH.

Matt gave a small sigh before shaking Airi's hand. The girl changed moods faster than he changed strategies during a duel. It was sort of amusing, but at the same time, it was sort of confusing. It made Matt wonder if she was always like this, but something told her she was normally a cheerful and happy person. The way she sped past him so excitedly before definitely wouldn't have given that away. Nope, definitely no. He stayed silent a few moments as he lost himself in these thoughts before answering Airi's introduction.
"Well, I met you, thus I knew you when I made the joke... Anyways, the name's Matt Hirama." Matt said. He looked over at the young girl. As he did, he noticed the girl's duel disk, and it's blue outlinings. He blinked a few times, at first wondering if the girl really was in the Obelisk dorm. He hadn't seen her around. Then again, her height probably would have allowed her to hide in the massive flood of students pretty easily. His eyes rested on the disk for a few moments before averting to the park in front of him.
"So... You attend the academy, Airi?" he inquired shortly, still looking out towards the park. Whether it was animals, humans, or the trees and bushes, everything just seemed so serene and happy. It was a good break from the tension of the constant duels back at the academy, which made this park one of Matt's favorites in the city.

"Yup. Obelisk." Airi commented. Her hand left his hand and she winked, giving him the thumbs up. "But don't let that discourage you, no? I know that some people can find Obelisks to be stuffy." Of course, Airi had never seen Matt Hirama herself, so she couldn't have known that he was Obelisk. Besides, she was new to the school to tell the truth. Still, all she could recall was her conversation with Shizuma about how Obelisks were stuck-up, stuffy and dull. In truth though, they could all have their own personalities... just because you wore the blue didn't mean you were elitist. Besides, Airi knew she had a long way to go before she was the best of Obelisk. She'd find out how eventually.
"So what house are you in? I mean if you're asking that you're probably at the Academy right?" She grinned. "I haven't seen you around the Academy yet but that's because I'm new. I think I would've remembered you... or you would've remembered me. Maybe that's why you called me flat?" She pondered it for a moment, sweatdropped and placed a hand behind her head. "Sorry I don't recall you at all." She seemed to be talking a mile a minute to Matt... but this was normal for Airi.

Matt just started out in front of him as Airi spoke. While his head certainly wasn't spinning from the speed of her conversation, that didn't mean he wasn't having a hard time keeping up. He had seen people like this both at the academy and in the city, but he had never really talked with any of them. And now that he had, it felt a bit overwhelming trying to keep up with the conversation. After Airi had finished speaking, Matt decided it was better to stick to his own pace, as opposed to keep up with hers.
"Heh, sorry. This is the first time we've met. And don't worry about your rank being intimidating. I'm in Obelisk as well. As long as you're not like those stuck up elitists, you're fine in my book." he said. He stretched his legs out in front of him again, placing his foot on the opposite knee again. In the back of his mind, he wondered hen an ice cream truck or some other refreshments would pass by. He was both hungry and thirsty, but didn't want to seem too rude to Airi. Not after calling a majority of his own dorm elitist bastards.
"So you're new... Where did you transfer from? East Academy?" Matt asked, trying to get his mind off of his hunger.

"Nah. I didn't transfer in from anywhere. Got in through the main entrance exams. I'm from Detroit." Airi commented to him as she got up off the bench. She started to skate backwards in front of him, apparently looking to get going and get going fast. She was restless. THE CHICKEN-BONES WAS RESTLESS!
"No dueling academies out there. So, go figure, here I am learning Japanese, figured out about this place and I'm like, 'SA-WEEEEEEEET!!!'" She yelled as she punched the air in her cheering. "Finally a practical application! Not that half the big-shot duelists aren't Japanese but it's sort of a universally understood game, y'know?" She commented to Matt. Of course she didn't comment on the stuck-up elitist comment. She knew what her house was like.

Matt honestly didn't know what to say in response to the girl. She spoke so fast and so energetically, it was almost irritating to try and keep up at this point. But it wasn't just her speech that was overly energetic. Matt could tell she was prone to speed off without a moment's notice if she stayed still for too long. Sure, Matt got energetic during a duel, but damn, never this energetic. It was definitely hard to deal with...
"Oh, yeah... Practical application." Matt said. Just watching someone as restless as Airi tired Matt out. He knew it was only his mind playing tricks on him, but still... He replanted his right foot on the ground and pulled both feet back a bit, so that the young girl wouldn't trip over him by accident. The last thing he needed, or wanted, was her throwing another fit.
