"I could but I rather not. I see little to no point in it." Actually in the academy she never dueled at all. It would be ironic to see her graduate as obelisk and never duel in all her years there. She should know better than anyone that rank meant nothing but to inflat ego. That kind of sparked a memory of someone now but she couldn't pinpoint who. If she didn't remember then it didn't matter. "Is there a reason you ask?"

"I dunno...might be fun to go a round if you did, Recita. I always find it fun to take on new opponents on the dueling field. Just to see what's out there you know?"
If there was one thing Shizuma did like to do it was dueling. Dueling got his blood pumping and his mind rushing. It was always fun to do as far as he was concerned. It was something he was always up for doing.

The opposite was true in the eyes of Recita, a previous shadow duelist. Seeing pain being inflicted and lost souls being sent to its demise was always less than favorable considering her own past. Even in a normal duel, Lifepoints were still symbolically representing life force and the monsters are still being used like pawns. Sacrificing, destroying, discarding. Though she would feel nothing for these things, even now, it made her realize how coldblooded she was.
That was part of why she quit dueling. The second the world around her or the shadows near her collapsed, she would pick up that deck. Little more than that. "I apologize. My desire to duel dropped along with my graduation out of the academy. You'll have plenty of chances to duel when classes start." She said without knowledge of the fact.

"I hope so, it would be fun. Though I'm sorry to hear that you stopped dueling, Recita. I'm sure you were pretty good at it." said Shizuma giving her credit as a student.
Though she did drop out that was no indication of her abilities. So it would be unfair of him to think that she was in no way skilled in dueling. He just hoped that she wouldn't think him just trying to flatter her.

"Hm. You shouldn't try to flatter me so much. Im not as good as you may think," and since she didn't know what he thought it was clear that she thought herself mediocre at best. That was fine by her actually. Luckily he hadn't asked for her old rank or that'd cause for more explaination than she cared to give.
At this point, Recita had been bored enough to start playing with the straw in the empty plastic cup in front of her. It gave mild entertainment and she couldn't exactly just ignore the boy now that they spoke for so long could she? Being social was a pain. "Anyway, was there anything else you'd like to ask besides my academy life?"

"Well, if you don't mind me asking, Recita, since you are an actress is there any thing you are doing at this point as far as acting?" asked Shizuma curiously as he looked at Recita.
He sat there and fiddled with his near empty cup of coffee as he wondered what she was doing at this point as an actress. Recita was definitely an interesting case....though surely she was better at dueling than she let on...at least he thought so.

"Ugh... yeah... that..." to get back to her acting career was a pain. Was this boy really that interested in the acting profession that much? But she'd respond in a vague half truth like she always did. It wasn't like she minded giving it away but she wasn't allowed. Something about spoilers whatever that meant.
"Well there was a movie shoot by the storage center downtown a few hours ago. Some action chase scene?" she said with a shrug. The careful wording she used didn't let on that she didn't go since she could have been on a break or done with her own scene. She was sure the boy would assume that she was. He was one of those goody good boys. That aside, "You interested or something?"

"Well, who wouldn't be? It's not everyday you meet an actress. I hope that you rock what ever role you play. It would make sense as to why you are here though...I mean if you've done your scenes or if they are doing yours later then why not come for a drink." said Shizuma with a nod.
He understood that she couldn't give that much out about her movies or plays she did otherwise it would spoil things. So he wasn't thinking of probing that much into things.

She found herself smirking a bit at that. He honestly had no idea who she was at all. That was good, she wasn't that popular now. If he was a first year then obviously he wouldn't have seen her the last year either so that means she was good. "If you're really interested then you can try to get into it. Not something I suggest but..."
Who was she to stop someone from following a career path. Though he was young to be legally placed into work without concent of parental advisory, she didn't see why not. Her way of being slightly more social. But then again he goes to the academy, the little squirt. Tough luck. Now for some real scoping. "Anyway. Anything new going on around this place I should know about? I dont keep up with news."

"Not much as of yet considering a lot of us are just settling in for the new year. I can't wait to get into my first duel there. I can only wonder what will happen this year." said Shizuma with a warm smile.
If there was one thing he looked forward to. It was to his year at the Academy. Though he was sad that he couldn't get in on the acting gig but he was always ready to duel.

First duel... so he was a first year after all. With her experience at duel academy, she couldn't help but wonder if shadow magic still plagued that place. Though it was easy enough to check, she promised herself that she'd stay away from that magic. The island itself she could care little to less about.
She tried not to sound heartless but there wasn't much she could say as a response that was truthful and insightful on the subject. Instead of words then, she shrugged and the sound "Hm," came through for her. Her eyes now gazed back into the far away look she had before, looking towards the window again. She was deciding on where to go next after this before rush hour started. Winging it would be fine if she found something to do, maybe thats good enough.
