Ryoma is a fighter in nearly every way, but though he is a warrior, he is not stone cold or battle hardened. He concerns himself with the safety of those around him as a result of his bodyguard training. He fights for defense usually, but has no trouble going on the offensive when riled. Ryoma is also a man of many faces, and is capable of hiding his emotions when necessary. He knows how to have a good time, but he also knows when seriousness is called for. Many times he has difficulty warming up to others, but once he does, he can loosen up fairly easily. When it comes to women, Ryoma has much respect, and will never disrespect any woman, even if she is his enemy. He also has a sense of loyalty, and prides himself in being very trustworthy.History:
When it comes to dueling, Ryoma is a strategist, and is usually prepared for anything. He loves making different decks to try different strategies, but he still keeps one deck as his main deck. In duels, he is calm and collected, unless riled. He hates failure, but he tries not to show his opponent his disappointment if he loses.
Ryoma was born in the Kyoto region of Japan to Kaito and Hikari Kishomo. His father, Kaito, was a bodyguard to the royal family, a kind of secret service if you will. His mother, Hikari, was a librarian. Life was rough growing up, as Ryoma’s father would often have to be gone for weeks at a time, but not much could be done about that. Ryoma spent most of his childhood in the library with his mother, and learned to read quickly. This resulted in his easily obtained education, because he would read book after book in his free time. By the age of 14 he had obtained a rather high-level education.Status: Slifer Red
In the same year Ryoma was born, the royal family had also obtained a baby girl. Kaito had been assigned to the royal family’s protection, and Ryoma was introduced to the princess at the time of her birth (which was only shortly after his own birth). The two grew up together, being best of friends. As Ryoma grew, he obtained a protectiveness towards her, and would often defend her from other boys who seemed to like to oggle her. At one point, the two picked up on the game of Duel Monsters, teaming up in tournaments for years. His deck of choice consisted of small warriors made for tuning quickly, while hers was based on Monarchs, a symbol of her royalty.
At the age of 15, the two began to realize that their friendship wasn't anything ordinary, and that deeper feelings had begun to blossom between them. The two fell in love, and their relationship skyrocketed. Ryoma would not allow himself to defile her, but when they kissed, the passion was very obvious between them.
Ryoma isn’t perfect, however, and all good things must come to an end at some point. Mizu had been sent on a diplomatic mission to a warring nation, attempting to bring peace through non-violent tactics. Ryoma and his father, of course, accompanied her on this trip. Ryoma staged himself as her servant which allowed him to be present during the talks. The talks were going well, peace even becoming more and more likely. That is, until an unknown enemy attacked. First, warriors were sent in, disrupting the peace talks and negotiations. Swordsmen rushed in, hacking away at the diplomats. Bodyguards dropped, and then diplomats shortly after…..until they met Ryoma's father, Kaito. He had been trained by the best, and had been the best cadet anyone had ever seen. Naturally, he did well in fending off the attackers. He used both a katana and his sakabato to protect the princess. Once they realized they could not beat him, those who remained retreated, and soon after, more came in. However, these warriors were different. Instead of brandishing blades or guns, they brandished duel disks. Ryoma, without thinking, stepped forward to defend her, and a shadow game ensued, with Mizu’s soul at stake. Kaito did not like the terms, but he wasn’t exactly in position to be bartering with these terrorists. As Ryoma stepped forward, Mizu handed him a royal duel disk, combining it with a kiss for good luck. She was not afraid, having full faith and trust in his abilities. The battle took place….the game being neck and neck for a winner until the very end. Ryoma could feel his energy draining, his body drenched with sweat. How long had the duel been going on for now? He readied for his final attack, which would have finished off his opponent, but his opponent pulled off a trap, causing the last of Ryoma’s life points to be lost…..along with the soul of Princess Mizu. The shadows abated, and she collapsed into his arms as the terrorists disappeared, laughing.
Ryoma was ashamed, and angry with himself for his loss. He had failed, and as a result, the princess’s soul had been stolen. To this day, Princess Mizu rests in a hospital, the location secret, even to Ryoma. He was allowed to see her one time, but he had been blindfolded during the trip there. At her bedside, he fell to his knees, tears streaming down his face. All he could say for a long time was “I am so sorry….please forgive me.” Finally, he was told it was time to leave. Ryoma stood to his feet, wiped his tears from his face, straightened his posture, then bowed and whispered, “I will train to become better….and I will avenge you and bring you back from the shadows. This I swear.” He took her hand and kissed it, letting his lips remain on her skin for a long moment before finally leaving her to rest peacefully in darkness.
For the next year, Ryoma trained, leaving his parents and life behind, focusing all attention on his training. The grief and anger became his driving emotions, but he has now learned to hide them away so as not to affect those around him, or give his enemies any weak points to hit. Scarred by the shadow duel and his loss, he was sent to a duel academy to hone his skills. On the voyage to the academy, he learned there are spirits connected with the cards, and he is learning how to see and communicate with them. One spirit seems to have taken a liking to him, though, and she remains visible to him at all times. She is the spirit of Fortune Lady Light, but Ryoma has come to call her Hope. She is his comfort when he is alone, always there to be a listening ear or a shoulder to cry on.
Armed with a new deck based upon Fortune Ladies, the royal duel disk that had belonged to Mizu, and his plan for vengeance; Ryoma steps foot into his new stage of his world, and takes one step closer to fulfilling his vow. But what all will change in this stage? Only time will tell.

Ryoma had had no idea that this island had mountains to explore....but he was very glad for them. It gave him a sense of home....it was a perfect place for peace and quiet....and it brought memories of her to the front of his mind. He sat down on a ledge, just a little off the mountain path, and crossed his legs, looking over the academy. If only she were here....he wished to see her smiling face one more time. Having to leave her like that....it tore a hole into his heart....an unfillable void. Learning more about this card game only strengthened the feeling of that void....it was like a weight attached to his chest, and it took all his will power to keep from letting it depress him.Additional Information:
Hope appeared beside him...the cute little Fortune Lady Light spirit rested her arms around his shoulders and leaned against his back. "You're thinking about her again....aren't you?" she asked softly.
Ryoma nodded, remaining silent.
Hope sighed. "You need a distraction...something to keep your mind off things."
Ryoma has the power to see duel spirits, and often communicates with them. Fortune Lady Light (nicknamed: Hope) always remains at his side, and is always visible to him. Perhaps this is because she is his favorite, or maybe it is due to the fact that she has a bit of a crush on him. Of course, he doesn’t quite know that part.
