Once a bubbly, vibrant girl Kayla was forced to mature when her twin succumbed to an unknown illness and she was forced to provide for the both of them. Her level of maturity brings her on par with most adults and she heas learnt over the years that sometimes sacrifices need to be made. Her moral compass is sketchy and if she must perform some great moral evil in order to keep herself and her siblings alive then she has qualms in doing so.History:
She has little time for social activity and although she enjoys it tends to avoid any social events unless it relates to whatever goal she is currently attempting to achieve. When she sets herself a goal she sees it through to the end, no matter what the cost to herself or others, effectively blocking out any elses opinion on the matter indefinitely. As a result she often tries to deter anyone seeking to call themselves her friends, not because she dosen't want them, but because they pose a risk to something that is often much more important to her than a social event.
Deep down she is still the bubbly, vibrant girl she used to be but the way in which the course of her life has been shaped has forced her to adopt a facade under which she can operate freely to achieve whatever goals she has set. On occasion she lets her guard down and finds herself enjoying life, though these moments are far and inbetween, and if they come about Kayla quickly shuts them down with force.
Kayla and her twin brother Alexander were born in Perth, Western Australia. Sadly, a week after they're birth they were left outside St Mary's Orphanage. It was here that the children experienced an overly religous childhood governed by strict nuns and priests. Kayla and Alexander were eight when they first discovered duel monsters. Both running Harpie decks the two of them fought they're way to the top of the regional ladder, often finding the only satisfying competition to take place between themselves. Kayla was ten when she won her first regional and Alexander won his the next year.Status: Obelisk Blue
With their dueling ability developing so quickly it was inevitable that the nuns would discover Kayla and Alexander's antics sooner or later and when they did the two found themselves the subject of intense scorn, they're card were confiscated and the two of them sentenced to intense punishment that lasted for weeks.
On the day of their twelth birthday both Alexander and Kayla decied to try and make it on their own. They stole into the nuns boarding house and managed to fin both of their decks before taking to the streets of Perth. Before long it became obvious that police had begun to search all over the city and in an attempt to escape once and for all they made their way to Brisbane were they managed to scrap a living of winnings from their dueling.
In the year they both turned thirteen both Alexander and Kayla met a woman by the name of Ishizu while dueling in a nationals qualifying tournament. They developed a close bond with her over the course of a few months and slowly she came to learn of their story and how they had come to Brisbane. After learning of everything the two had been through Ishizu offered to adopt the two orphans and for the first time in their lives both Kayla and Alex found themselves a family they could rely on. Later that year Kayla and Alexander entered into the Australian Nationa Junoir Championships, the grand prize of which included a scholarship to Kaiba's Duel Academy. Kayla and Alexander entered on opposite sides of the tournament and it looked as though the two of them would face it off in the finals. Such a prospect was looking more and more likely until Alexander came up against a duelist in the semi-finals whom had managed to one hit ko half of his opposition until Alexander. Her brother was looking to win but just as he was looking to order the final attack he collapsed, defaulting victor to his opponent.
Alexander was rushed to hospital, and Kayla, unable to be at his side lest she forfeit her only chance at getting to the academy, faced off against Alexander's last opponent. Throughout the duel her head ached with pain whenever she appeared to be holding the lead, yet she managed to hold on until the end. Claiming victory and a ticket to Duel Academy.
Alexander has been in a comma ever since and the year after their fourteenth birthday Kayla has only just left her brother's side with an emotional farewell. She comes to duel academy in the hope of discovering more about the experience she had felt in those Australian Finals and finding out wether or not it could be linked to her brother's strange condition.

Kayla lay on her bed in the large room she'd been assigned on the boat to take her from Brisbane to Domino City, where she would see the sights before joining duel academy on the first day of 2010. Out the porthole to her side she could see that night had effectively blanketed the sky, all she could see was moonlight reflecting off the calm surface of the waves. The lights of Brisbane city were far off in the city, Alexander still lay unconcious in his own bed as he had done for the last year now. Ishizu would be by her side... A tear rolled down her cheek as she remembered their emotional farewell... She may not see her brother again for the next five years of her life. It was a daunting prospect.Additional Information:
Shaking her head she reminded herself that this was no time for emotions, lest they get in the way of what she had really come to achieve. She would find out what really caused her brothers condition, and she would find a way to cure him. That duelist she'd faced in the finals was still etched in her mind and no matter how hard she tried she couldn't shake the thought that the way in which he had dueled was directly linked with her brother's coma. Sighing, she looked out the porthole one more time before closing her eyes and drifting off to sleep... When she awoke, her time in America would have only just begun.
[Matt Edit: It's cool. Don't worry about it too much, and just ignore the spiked flail in my hand.]
