General Rules NEW RULES! 11/27/09 1. This site's rating is PG-13. This includes roleplaying material, OOC chat material and C-Box material. Slight overbounding of this line is allowed, however, please follow these general guidelines. This example is taken from the Motion Picture Association of America website. Apply the following accordingly. Keep in mind, this website isn't a motion picture. A PG-13 motion picture may go beyond the PG rating in theme, violence, nudity, sensuality, language, adult activities or other elements, but does not reach the restricted R category. The theme of the motion picture by itself will not result in a rating greater than PG-13, although depictions of activities related to a mature theme may result in a restricted rating for the motion picture. Any drug use will initially require at least a PG-13 rating. More than brief nudity will require at least a PG-13 rating, but such nudity in a PG-13 rated motion picture generally will not be sexually oriented. There may be depictions of violence in a PG-13 movie, but generally not both realistic and extreme or persistent violence. A motion picture’s single use of one of the harsher sexually-derived words, though only as an expletive, initially requires at least a PG-13 rating. More than one such expletive requires an R rating, as must even one of those words used in a sexual context. The Rating Board nevertheless may rate such a motion picture PG-13 if, based on a special vote by a two-thirds majority, the Raters feel that most American parents would believe that a PG-13 rating is appropriate because of the context or manner in which the words are used or because the use of those words in the motion picture is inconspicuous.2. Respect for other members will absolutely be enforced. There is to be no cat-calling on the C-Box whatsoever. However, this rule only extends as far as paranoia is not involved. Past experiences with an individual are not acceptable material to make another feel unwanted. Any personal conflicts an individual has will be taken off this website or to the PMs, or will be dealt with swiftly. 3. Trolling is not permitted at Duelist Legacies. The definition for trolling is as follows: In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts controversial, inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.4. A limitation of three characters on the forum has been put in for the reason that some are more given to playing multiple characters then others. This applies to everyone, including staff members. Please do not try to apply with a different e-mail, for your IP address can just be searched. RULE EXCEPTION: Should your three accounts reach 100 posts each, THEN AND ONLY THEN may you apply for a fourth character. This is your one exception. 5. iwillpursuethisdream is one of the two codewords required for your character to be approved. 6. Respect for the staff members will be enforced. Each staff member has been trusted with the task of keeping this place under control. Harrassment of anyone is not tolerated, and when a staff member says to cease and desist, stop whatever action it is you are doing. Period. If you feel you are being poorly judged, PM Duel Academy, and the administrator in charge of that account will deal with your issue. 7. Plagiarism of another profile or deck is strictly forbidden at Duelist Legacies. Pagiarism is an offense that can merit a variance of punishments, but in most case scenarios, your account will be banned. You have been forewarned. 8. Have fun guys. It's a roleplay, an escape and a way to write out a story. Have fun with it.

Character Rules
1. Remain active. Unless you have reported that you will be absent, there is no excuse for not logging in at least once a week. All accounts inactive for more then two months will have their profiles archived and will have to request that their profiles be brought back out again by an administrator.
2. If you wish for a certain position, make sure that that position is not taken by looking at the Positions list. If it is not taken, make your character as if the position is yours. If it is satisfactory, then you will be granted the position. DO NOT ASK FOR THE POSITION!
3. A first and a last name are required for your display name and profile before joining. If your character would not normally have a last name, make up a last name that they would use should they have to be introduced to someone or should they apply for a job.
4. No killing off characters without permission from both Duel Academy and the person whom you are killing.
5. No Mary Sue's or Gary Stu's. Please read the following description for the definition.
Mary Sue, sometimes shortened simply to Sue, is a pejorative term used to describe a fictional character, either male or female (male characters are often dubbed "Gary Stu", "Marty Stu", or similar names), that exhibits some or most of the clichés common to much fan fiction. Such characters were originally labeled "Mary Sues" because they were portrayed in overly idealized ways, lacked noteworthy or realistic flaws, and primarily functioned as wish-fullfillment fantasies for their authors, often very young and unsophisticated. - Wikipedia
6. You are not required at this website to do a test to be sorted into a house. HOWEVER, be sure that you can follow with the prestige of the house in character. Also, if the character seems like a Slifer when you want it to be an Obelisk, please don't say that it is an Obelisk. Show the intelligence of the character within the profile. If one of the profiles mods sorts you into a different house then you wanted, it is because the mod didn't think you were suitable for the house you wanted.

Posting Rules
1. Do not double post.
2. Do not spam threads or "bump" them.
3. Post in third person past tense. The forum looks really odd when there's a random person posting in present tense in the middle of a bunch of past tenses.
4. No God-Modding. God-Modding is as follows:
Godmoding is a term used in message board based role-playing games to describe two poor behaviours of players. Godmoding is almost always frowned upon by other members of the game, because it is regarded as a form of cheating against the game's tacit rules. - Google
Long story short: Don't manipulate another person's character without asking first.
5. Post your deck before using it.
6. Don't cheat. Be advised ahead of time, we know when you cheat, so spare us the trouble of having to hunt you down for it. Just don't do it, we have many moderators instructed to look out for this sort of thing. Also, do not duel with a deck before you post the deck. It will result in an automatic call for cheating, whither you actually cheated or not. Same goes for editing of decks during a duel. Do not do it, or we will call it for cheating. Both will result in at least an automatic loss, or possibly worse consequences.
causeiknowitsexpectedthatibeserene should also be added to your Additional Information to prove you have read these rules.
7. Be as close to literate as you can possibly be. Sure, no one's perfect, you will make spelling mistakes. But, PLEASE write properly. It's understandable to have some mix ups with present and past tense if English isn't your first language, but it's NOT understandable to write without proper punctuation. You all can write better than that.

Punishments
The first offense will be a warning within PMs to cease the inappropriate behaviour.
The second offense will be a 25% warning. This 25% warning will fade after a month or so, however you will be watched for further behaviour. After the month, you will be back to 'first offense'.
The third offense will be a 25% warning, however, this one will last 3 months. After the three months, you will be pushed back down to 'second offense'.
The fourth offense will result in a ban.
THESE WARNINGS ARE JUST A GUIDELINE! If you cause a major offense, there might be a jump in offenses, such as bans and the like.
